Thankyou all.

I think we will be looking at some ufo lights to put us on and invest in a leisure battery as soon as we can.

We like the idea of the camping gaz lanterns but with a 3 yr old running round, we've got safety concerns.

Thankyou all for the advice.

Vic

Regarding the campingaz lanterns, surely they're not safe in SIG / ZIG tents because of the build up of fumes issue??

We have one LED wind up lamp, one battery lamp and another battery lamp that we hang from the top of the tent.

I also use solar charged fairy lights(the ousdoor ones) to add a bit of fun and practical light for use at night.

I also have a least 3 sets of battery fairy lights, as well as a light-up book mark.  Not oo keen on gas lamps as I have three clumsy men in my family.

Another vote for the UFO lamps - we have the kampa one with the remote control... very handy! Make sure to stock up on AA batteries though.

Same question about the Camping Gaz Lanterns.... are these safe in a SIG/ZIG tent? The idea of an adjustable 80w lamp is very appealing but not if it kills me!

I like my gas lamp, but I'm ultra careful when the kids are around, it would be nice to find an electric lamp that you didn't have to drive half way round the country to recharge

Another vote here for UFO lights... They are by far the best lights i've used. The ones from Wilkos have two circles of LEDs which is easily powerfull enough to light the whole of our Nevada.

Had one of those electric lanterns but don't bother with it anymore... to bulky, needs 5 of those big bateries (expensive!) and not very bright

Also have a Campingaz lantern which is quite pleasant and lets off a nice warm glow but i don't like to use it inside the tent

I ordered a 24 LED UFO light from ebay the other day so will have that, plus a lantern thing, a wind up torch/lantern and a mini maglite for reading.

Not everyone likes LED lights but consider this I stumbled on by accident in Tesco.

They do a LED cycle light that either strobes or flashes but more importantly for us is the normal light. In a two/three man tent is awsome and very bright and after two trips away or 6 nights its still going strong. Its about the size of a 50 pence piece

The price? £2.50

What more can I say............

For those that are interested I am working on a little camping lighting project. Its a little Blue Peter at this stage but it works......

Using recycled components from old model cars I have created a portable power supply that powers air bed pumps, lighting at night and charged during the day using standard domestic garden solar panels and a home made wind generator aimed at camping only.

Watch this space....................
