Thanks all, I certainly sparked off a debate there! I wonder if there will ever be a day when they are just seen as normal and not such a big deal (because they're not really), like pylons (only much prettier than pylons!!!).
I will try and contact some of you individually if that's OK (post here if not).

Elsadog, there is something to be said for the fear of global warming.....it's a big stick for governments to use to control us. It's also a huge money making machine for the media, for universities, for companies who are able to charge more for the "green" option, for governments to make more in the way of "green taxes".
As you rightly point out, we don't have a hope in hell of altering the course of the cycles of the earth. But, I suppose, the propaganda surrounding it all at least raises awareness of environmental issues and hopefully encourages people to care a bit more about problems that we can do something about - waste, pollution, poor design of development leading to increased flood risks, destruction of the natural environment, poverty, starvation....the list is endless.

Peter.........I totally agree with you. Just needed to rant about the mis-information industry regarding wind farms and our incompetant governments inability to get to grips with the real problems facing us all in years to come.
I've probably sent half the forum to sleep, but I feel much better.

I wonder how much energy we save by our 2 - 4 weeks camping per year?

Like they say: camping is very friendly to the environment.Since that is the case,we will probably all agree that more people should go camping, rather than jetting off to other countries.
Using that as a basis,i think the UK Government should, not only encourage more people to go camping, but enforce camp sites to lower their extortionate prices,to help encourage people to go camping.
