Its the same argument charging for a caravan awnings, its all on the same pitch.I am always tempted to say we don't have one and put it up and see what happens.

On a lot of pitches theres not enough space to put it 3m away, although you could put it on your neighbours pitch and get them to cook your tea.

To be honest, I was at a site once that I asked about our Utility tent. (after I'd erected it). The member of staff I asked told me that there was a charge. I said I wasnt willing to pay, so i'd take it down. Then the site owner walked into reception and said that Utility tents were free - Only Gazebos and Dayrooms were chargable. So sometimes its the staff that are taking it upon themselves to add a charge. Might be better to ask for the manager sometimes.

Dezzie, I was going to say something similar, in most cases you will find the person answering the phone is not the site warden, probably just a receptionist, we used a gazebo on one of our trips and the site warden came round and not once did he say you shouldn't be using that or you haven't paid for that, we had it up for the full weekend. We did pay for our dog extra £2 a night!! but my friends mil came at the last minute with her dog and there was no extra charge even although we notified the site, wonder if we should have been so honest!

We are off next Saturday to a CCC Club Site for our summer holidays. Seven adults in total (in-laws, parents, us 2 and brother....wish me luck) and we have two pitches. I called the site to check that a kitchen tent for us all to use was OK, my thinking was that we could all put our cookers, kettle, toaster, George Foreman etc... in there for shared use rather than us all in one tent or some equipment in one and some in another. They wont let me put a kitchen tent up between us (not touching or really close to both tents but in between us to the rear), it has to be 20ft away as a fire break. They dont want to charge for it which is great but how the hell does that encourage people to save electric by just boiling one kettle rather than two seperate in the morning and also encourage people not to cook in their tents. Bizarre. We will be pitched together and are not allowed to run windbreaks between each tent to create a private area for us all to congregate as between us there can be no equipment to link the tents together. We have already decided not to renew our club membership next year because the pitching rules are too restrictive for us, we like fields where you find a corner and pitch as you like and what equipment you like. I dont use a kitchen tent for safety I use it for convenience so that the living area of my tent is free from cooking equipment and has room to all congregate for a game of cards on a rainy evening.

i would pitch the utility tent behind your set up, as near/far as you want it. if you wnat it for safety then heed the 3m rule, if you want it for space, then wherever! we have done the same with a pup tent before, just attached the canopies to the same poles........its not a seperate tent, more of an extension!!!!! lol!!

the safety thing that they are giving as a reason for the 3m is a farce though, as if you dont take the utility tent, you will be cooking in your main tent which will be how far away!!!?? iykwim??!!

tbh normally the warden doesnt give a monkeys ar$e what you have, he still gets paid!!! lol!!!

Domino666 if you look at the pics in my profile you will see our utility tent very close to our tent. That was at Hayfield C&CC and they did not say a word to us about it

Purplebean, I'll keep my fingers crossed but the lady who answered the phone was very uppity and said we would be asked to move it if we put it between us. Baa humbug! Never mind membership runs out in Jan so we will use the CS sites as much as we can before it expires. Such a shame.

Dont want to cook in tent: extra condensation (SIG), cooking smells, splilt/splashed ingredients, clutter etc. Then again I dont want to be dragging kitchen, cooker, utensils, ingrediants in and outside to cook in all weather elements everytime I wanna eat............Hence Utility tent.

Had differing responses on C&CC's and CS's to request to pitch even tho never declined, nor charged extra fee:

(When shown designated pitch)"Yeah no probs, just put it on end near your tent"

(On booking)Yes, should'nt be a problem, just notify us on the online booking form".

The one that got me was after being given a choice of pitches then asking if I could use utility I was told "if you'd have been on a 'normal' pitch then you wouldn't have been able to" My tent is at it's widest points 7.25m x 2.60m. The warden was including my guy ropes (not as spec in C&CC rules) adding 2m on my footprint17

As I said my request wasn't rejected but what did get my back up was I had paid for a GWE with awning! Next thing I know a caravan parks in the next pitch (about half metre shorter than my tent, including its hitch) then proceeds to erect a full length/width awning.........plus one of the biggest windbreak coralls I've ever seen17

Now I'm not one for the Tent/Caravan/Motorhome squabbles (unless it's light hearted banter) but this did kind of shout "double standards"!

Glad I got that off my chest because it's been bugging me for ages.

Happy cooking everybody..........where ever ya do it17
