I tried out my Blue Cat in the garden this evening, and it heated up quite quickly.

However, it does emit some kind of sweet smelling odour that is usually associated with burning gas in canisters. Because of this, it is unlikely I shall leave it on through the night in the bedroom section, even if the vent is opened.

I have difficulties in disconnecting the canister from the heater, and shall take it back to the shop where I bought it for advice on how to remove the canister (I have to pop back to collect an air bed as it was left behind in the shop by the nice assistance who helped me carried the gears to my car, nevermind).

Perhaps my hand is just not big or strong enough to pull it out!

If it's the first time the heater has ever been used it will smell for a short while. The Black Cat Instructions tell you this. Once it has been used for a few minutes the smell disappears with the Black Cat.

i use this on occasion, its ok for taking the chill out of the air at night and in the morning. Like all gas appliances - be careful and you'll live to enjoy it. I dont know about the carbon monoxide risk with Propane gas, but we always disconnect the gas when not using the thing. And yes, it was a very good buy. We also use it in the NON SIG for ventilation. They are selling them in B&Ms for 9.99 or thereabouts at the moment.

I have the older version of this Dezzie, and it is great.    Last winter the fire in my dad's office died, so I it down, to give us a bit of heat - it was really great.    Got us by until the new fire was installed.    I was surprised at how effective it was, asd I had only used it in a tent (no groundsheet) before.

Just got myself the newer model, as I want separate equipment for when I take the tent, rather than go in the camper.    Means that some stuff can live in the camper.

I have purchased the Bluecat heater and definitely can recommend it. Never have it running unattended and not while you are sleeping. (the sleeping bags should keep you warm). It is a good idea to vent your tent because the gas is a liquid and as such can create condensation. We used ours for five to ten minutes at a time and then again half an hour or so later to take the edge off the cold temperature. The Bluecat heater is very effective and one of the best bits of kit I have purchased.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

I only intend to use it well supervised for short periods so will probably go for one of these.
A big advantage for me would be the gas canisters it uses. They are the same ones i use for cooking .

Cheers
Steve

I nearly burnt down my tent and killed off the whole family with one of these in a tent. Actually the one from b&m. So My vote is to not use them ! ever !

We have a black cat now and it seems fine, though I tend to sit watching it like a hawk, until the chill is off.

Do these run on the aerosol cas canisters (like the suitcase stoves)?

If so I'm gutted - I just shelled out for a black cat because I didn't think there were any heaters that ran on the small aerosol canisters.

EDIT - Oh they do run on the aerosols!!  Feel a bit like I've wasted money now - the black cat is great, but I've got about a dozen aerosol canisters to get through.
