Hi

We're off to the Gower on Friday for 8 days and had been planning on taking our bell tent with a spearate groundsheet and, as it's my birthday we were planning a romantic break with rus and cushions etc etc...
The weather doesn't seem to be getting any better though and I'm beginning to doubt my choice of tents. Firstly I've never put the bell tent up in the rain and have always laid the groundsheet out first. This wouldn't work in the rain so I thought I could put the tent up first then slide the groundsheet in under the pole. BUT, if the ground was muddy (which it's likely to be) then the tent would get muddy too as it's laid on the floor.
Does anybody else have any experience of putting a bell tent (without SIG) up in the rain? I know once up it's fine in the wind but I'm also concerned now about the rain.
Cheers, Annabel

You could put a large, cheap plastic sheet on the floor then put the tent on that until pitched. Push the sheet inside the tent as you bang in each peg then pull it out and lay the grounsheet  This would keep the lovely canvas clean :)

Have a lovely trip no matter what the weather does

Angie

Just keep the ground sheet under the bell tent as you put the tent up. The bell tent should stand on its own without guys while you're putting it up. You can pop in through the door bit put pole on the ground sheet, guy the tent out and then unfold and straight the ground sheet up before folding the mud flaps under it. Maybe even put a mark on the centre of the ground sheet so you can get it in the right place uner the pole straight off - fold it in such a way that it can be centred properly then just unfold it once up.
