Hello
We are new to camping and just about to buy our first tent... very exciting!

However i am a bit confused with the whole pitch cost and site allowing you on with these tents.

We are hoping to get the Outwell Montana 6 with the extrension.

There is my husband Mark, Harry (3), Archie (10wks), paddy the black lab (18mths) and myself. Plus everything we need to fit in So we need to have a large tent.

A bit worried now though that we will not be able to go to certain sites etc and it will end up costing us a fortune in pitch fees!

Advice would be very much appricated....

Newbie Mia

The tent which you are considering hasn't got an overly large footprint and you should have no problems in pitching sizewise. Campsites are more concerned about tents which have bedroom pods sprouting from every orifice and look like the manned space station.

we have a montana 6 and dont have any problems, although didnt pu the extansion on the last site as it was a small site. Just so you know after 3 trips away, it only takes an hour from arriving at site to having the tent up and everything set up.

you will be ok with 99% of sites.the extention adds 1.2 mtrs to your footprint as half of it goes over your tent.your footprint with extention will be 7.15 x 4.15 then 1.15 for the side door.you wont be dissapointed with it ist a great tent.

We have just bought our first family tent too, it's the Vango Tigris 800, a good size for our family of 5.

We are looking to put an extension on too, but we too weren't sure whether we'd get charged for the extra bit.

We are having the same problem, bought an outwell hartford xxl - one that looks like a spaceship 17 so that we would have more space for bits n pieces, also plan to go to France next summer - they do still have summers in France don't they? 17

But having read lots of messages on this site think maybe we have got a tent that is not going to be accepted on a lot of sites unless we book months in advance any one else having problem booking sites?

Hello all!17

We're the same as you Ian as bought the Hartford XXL the other week. We have a fav site not far from us and they have no probs with our tent, 5 kids, 2 cars, loo tent and kitchen tent plus you don't need to book in advance!!!  But admit I've been looking to go somewhere new but other than Shell Island and Aberafon we are finding it either too big or too costly! Ah well....it's still the best tent we've ever had!17

It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

Glad we are not the only one's having problems, we are going to Hillend in the Gower next week for our maiden voyage - hope it is dry for a couple of days at least. As for the sites that won't accept large tents, that is just there loss

We have a outwell hartford xl we have had no problems getting on sites apart from breydon water who wanted us to pay for 2 pitches but they had a discounts on. Which meant it was cheaper than all the other sites we went on last year.

So far this year we have had no problems and we have now got a 8x6 trailer with us.

I am a Monty owner and have the extension. I am so pleased with it and I am sure you will be too. So far I have had no problem with pitching. I would recommend the footprint which helps to protect the SIG and the carpet is a luxury very much worth having.

phew, i thought this was a thread for large families !!!! lol!!!

anyway, we have a maryland XL and have had no problems getting a pitch (9.5 m X 6.5m)

the only place that i am likely to have probs is on C&CC sites, so will keep away from them!!

buy the tent that you need for your own situation, we have a large family and have a large tent.....some people need more space, some prefer to go minimilist.....the choice is yours lol!!

Hi another Newbie here

We have an Ohio Xl and extension and had no problem getting into Hollands Wood a few weeks ago but after ringing around last week have found that some sites won't accept us in high season.

Hope you manage to get in somewhere.

Kate
