Yep i camped last oct half term, in the snow too.Well it had snowed that week and we drove up through the Snowdonia national park with all snow still on the mountain tops.We went to watch the motor cross on Barmouth beach and i enjoyed it so much im going again this year.Went well prepared EHU , fan heater ,parabolic heater. and lots of fleecy blankets.Darker nights so lights on in tent a lot longer, but the sites are so quiet and uncrowded. My son and his mate were 12 and 13 at the time.

October can be very pleasant if you gear yourself up for 3-season camping with the right clothes and sleeping bags. The weather is a lottery at any time of year but obviously you should plan for October to be cooler and wetter than summer. Quiet though, so you probably don't need to book. No midges . Bear in mind that it gets dark at 6pm too and temperatures drop more sharply after dark.

I camp in the Lakes/Snowdonia up to the end of October every year without EHU but I only take off if the forecast is dry-ish. The ground is usually wet enough as it is without the addition of rain. I've never been cold in October in a 2*C bag but duvets may not cut it. If a lot of your enjoyment of camping comes from sitting out in the evening, it may not be for you. You've also got to think about what you are going to do in the day and how that might be different from summertime.

We did it a couple of years ago in our tent, and had a great time - it was only the rain on the next to last day that defeated us and we left a day early.   Site was pretty wet to start with, and on the next to last afternoon it started to rain - and it teamed all afternoon/evening/night.   The next morning I paddled to the loo block.    Everyone was packing up it was that bad   Howling wind, and torrential rain, so we packed up a day early.    Prior to that we had been having a a great time.
Last year we took our camper, and had a great time.   Had better weather than we had had in August.   Ok a bit chilly out of the sun, but just wrapped up.

Both times we went on a site with plenty to do - last year it was Flamingoland, and we are hoping to go back this October.

Just take plenty of warm clothes, and warm bedding and you will have a great time.
