We have a booked to go to Wickham Market this weekend but also have a weeks holiday in Poole booked for Mid Aug.
Should we go when its raining and just leave ourselves 2 weeks to get all the kit dry again?? Bit scared of packing away a wet tent and not having enough time to dry it again as it's bigger then our front room and doesn't even fit in the garden!
The forecasts don't ever seem to be accurate. We camped in Cornwall last week and the forecast was very, very bad. We pitched in rain and some wind but it could have been worse. The sun came out then and it was glorious. We had loads of sunshine and really hot weather and came back tanned and glowing. However, we did have lots of high winds - mostly during the night I am glad to say, and also some rain, again during the late evening and night. It was so, so much better than was forecast and all in all I think we did well. It's not been good in South Devon since we came back but now I am at my sister's so not having to worry about tents and winds. It's sad that the Met Office have revised their 'good, hot summer' forecast to more of what we are used to in the UK, but if we all took notice we'd never go. I was dreading having to pack a tent wet and pack away in the wet and wind, now I've done it I wondered what I was worrying about, ok it was extra work etc etc but nothing to get panicky about. It's the wind that is the biggest threat I think for snapped poles etc
I went to Angelsey at the weekend and packed away in very heavy rain. We just threw the tent in the boot and hung it over the banister when we got home with the inner on the washing line. We finally packed it away last night when dry. I know it's more work but it's a shame to be a slave to weather forecasts. Just fold the tent as best you can and keep turning till dry.
Take your tent down and stick it in a black bag, don't try to get it back into its own bag.
I'd just go, we had a great weekend although it rained pretty well the whole time and our friends had to be towed off the site in their camper van! We do still have a living room full of half dry kit.
Thanks for that - Unfortunately don't have a bannister or much room as live in a masionette with 2 greyhounds so hanging stuff out is a no no - hence why we are a bit dubious of going to get everything wet then trying to dry it again!
We were supposed to go camping last weekend for 2 nights but were put off by the rain - we ended up moping around for the whole weekend going on about how we "should be having fun camping now" - really wished we had gone. Don't be put off by the weather!!
Accuweather have predicted 20mph winds (40 mph gusts) and lots of rain for my trip to scotland next week. That is about the extreme that I will camp in. The forecast is not so grim on Metcheck, but not a great deal better. I am still going, Deltas at the ready!!
It's not the raining whilst we are there that's putting me off - more that we only have a short time (and no space) to dry everything before we go away for a week!
I had rain for my first ever camping trip and still enjoyed it (just learnt what clothes to pack). Just trying to think how we could dry the tent indoors - anyone do a tent suitable for tumble dryers? lol
