2 months ago my Vauxhall Vectra had an argument with a BMW X 5 and we came off worst, car was described as uneconomical to repair, and now our main summer camping holiday is drawing near and replacement car is nowhere to be seen due to office cock-up with paperwork. Every week we are told "sorry but due to???, but not to worry we will sort it out next week"
So do I keep hoping or phone campsite and cancell, we are due to go in a fortnight.
Phone whoever it is that is dealing with it and tell them you are sending them the bill for your main family holiday that you are going to have to cancel if you don't have the car by xxxxx date. Either that or you will hire a car and send them the bill for that.
Tell them 2 months is too long to be kept without your family car.
I think it would be acceptable for you to send them your hire car bill should they take an unreasonable length of time to complete your claim.
But you must give them the opportunity to sort it out for you first. Tell them when you need your car by and if they can't meet that date, ask them to hire the car for you - they may prefer to do this as they will get a better rate. If not, go ahead and hire a car and put your claim in writing afterwards.
Good luck!
Thanks for replies, I have thought about hiring a car but never thought about sending them the bill They know exactly when our holiday is, and have known for 2 months.
Problem with hire-car is we would need one with towbar !!
I absolutely agree with Keely, that is outrageous!!
Tell them that they can hire you a vehicle for the holiday, or they can reimburse you for all the costs of the pre-booked holiday which you would be unable to take - including extras like any theme park tickets you have purchased etc.
And when you call them, don't speak to the person who answers the phone, as they won't have the authority to help you, ask to speak to a manager.
Good luck, and keep us posted!!
------------- 2011 plans:
April - Exmoor 11 nights
May - Brynawelon, Wales 3 nights
July - Rendlesham Forest 4 nights
Then I am off back home to Australia, where the weather is always perfect for camping :)
Whether it is reasonable or not to hire a car and charge it to whoever is causing the delay is to some extent down to who it is and who's fault the accident is deemed to be.
I get the impression from your first post that it was a company car so it's the company that is messing things up?
Just be careful you don't end up with a hire bill!
try helphire, if the other person was to blame. My car got wrote off by someone else and no curtesy car was available so my insurance company put me on to these, they send out the a car the same size as yours, i had a zafira and they sent me a VW Tiguan for 4 weeks and they claimed the expense of the other persons insurance. it was delivered to my door within a couple of days.
