Looking forward to this, hubby has loads of work to do so getting out from under his feet tonight!!
Taking the kids up to see my brothers near telford and got the kit ready to go...
Seems really odd to me not to be taking ALL the kit ith us, but just 3 of us in the car means more space so dont need the trailer....
Bet I forget something though!!
Wish me luck!
Emma

I dont think you are wierd, how mean of them to laugh at you!!
My car is almost packed, and I cant believe how much I've not filled...seems like I need to put more in there!!
I'm also taking stuff up to my SIL who is due to have a baby this week, so had to also fit a mega bulky high char and my old buggy......still got room to spare...
Having the baby raclet makes camping witout the trailer so easy!!
Will report back on my return, (tomorrow!!)

Good luck and have fun. Amazing how much difference not having just one person makes I'm sure, packing wise- my oh's shoes take up so much space.
I want to do this with my kids. Oh is happy for me to (he's swamped at work and I work in a school so off work), but I just wish that I had a friend that camped too - but I don't , they all think I am weird. Also they laugh at me a lot.
You have the means, equipment and knowledge to take your kids away camping, one of the healthiest character building times they will experience, and you worry about what others think, it's them who are wierd, get hubby to come along to a site within an hours drive to help you set up then he can go home for work.
Your time will be used enjoying your time with your children, in the evening you will enjoy your own time relaxing with a book and glass of wine/whatever
Wouldn't surprise me if you made new aquaintances to keep you company at night, campsites are a great social event, think about it, in fact, don't think about it, just go, you'll have a great time i'm sure, and so will the kids

Well we are back, and nothing bad happened!! yay.
Took a long time to get there, up the M5 & M6 on a hot friday afternoon is not the best idea!! Got to the campsite and was shown to the pitch....really lovely views and nice flat pitch for my teeny tent.
Started pitching, and left the kids to have a nosey round the site, they came back pretty quickly as it was really only a small one.....
As soon as I got the canvas on the poles, the rain started....My youngest then decided he was hungry so rummaged through the food bag, and opened a small pot of coffee granules...all over the front seat!!! (agghh!) so, soggy front seat and dry coffee grains all over, inevitable that it soaked into the seat...lovely.
So tent pitched, inside all sorted, I popped our vango tunnel canopy in front and it worked a treat!! Sat the kids inside whilst I cooked their tea. all good.
Spent a lovely night under canvas listening to the rain on the roof, all snug and dry.
Packed up this morning, in what seemed like no time at all!! (still raining) and went to visit my brother....dropped off some stuff for them and came home...
Tent is now pitched in the garden (sunny) to dry and the canopy is over the washing line......and car is clean!!
All in all a really good trip and nothing to put me off doing it again (except I'm taking my coffee in a childproof tub!!)
It's so worth it, had a realy nice time and kids had a good time too, the only thing I would say is, how do you have a shower when you are on your own with the kids.... If I took them in with me, they would end up opening the door and running off just when I'd shampooed up!!!
