Hello,

We are off for two weeks next Wednesday (yay!) and for the first time we are planning on spending all of our holiday at the one site and just doing day trips rather than packing up all of the kit and moving between sites.

It is our first long holiday with our son (he's now 1) and we can't really face the idea of packing everything up like we used to do and moving somewhere new.

What I was wondering is, when you do have a base, how do you all spend your days when you're on holiday?  Do you stay at the site and read, play games, sleep or do you try to cram in as many activities and side trips as possible?

I am really looking forward to setting up camp properly, having a base and just enjoying it.  Long days reading, napping, playing with our little one and maybe the odd cheeky red here or there.

What about you?

we started taking our lad when he was 10 mths old (he's nearly 19 now & still likes to come with us) - dependent on weather a beach tent is handy if you are near the coast, somewhere for him to have his afternoon nap & store the beach paraphenalia - when the weather was inclement we then went out - sometimes we'd spend a day around the tent - as you do at home you'll work round his nap times

In the evening I used to wash him & put his jammies on under his coat, into the pram, then we'd go out for a stroll, call into a local pub for a cold glass of something, he'd fall asleep & it was just a case of lifting him into the travel cot - I used to find, as now, all the fresh air used to knock him out & he'd sleep all night, ready to start fresh again in the morning!

Have a good one - in your hands is the next generation of camper!

we're off tomorrow for 2 weeks at East Flee farm when we do two weeks at site we do a combination of activities and days on site depending on weather and what there is on site for the kids. it's always worth having some things to go and do in the even of torrential rain but there are no hard and fast rules, just enjoy the rest and your little one.

thanks guys.

We've taken the little one camping loads - I think he enjoys it more than we do - we've just never stayed in the one spot for such a long time before.

I think we just need to forget about the real world and get into the pace of camp life.  Take each day as it comes and enjoy it no matter what!

we have a 10 year old and a 3 year old, the eldest was 5 the first time we took him camping the youngest was around 6 months

we tend to play it by ear depending on the weather, if its going to be a nice day we stay at the site and relax and play with the kids and read books and stuff

but if its raining we try to find somewhere to go its no fun with kids sitting inside the tent all day in the rain

when i use to go to campsites with my family,we use to pop off for the day, sightseeing, like around york minster etc.To be honest,i am like everybody else,in that i would equally be as happy lounging around and strolling around the campsite all day and night.
