seeing the thread on the VOC changes and the EU's meddling i emailed Thomson's to see if they were going to reformulate the Canvas friendly version of their Waterseal .
looks like we'l have to start stockpiling for the future

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Thompsons Water Seal for use on
canvas. Unfortunately the new improved Water Seal cannot be applied to
canvas, regrettably we are no longer producing a product suitable for use
on canvas.

It is as you thought that you will have to purchase the Original Thompsons
Water Seal while you can. Hope this helps

The reason for this is,from 2010 no paint or paint product can be oil based.Its a new health and safety directive from the EU.
All paints from the start of 2010 will be water based.
I wonder how the likes of Fabsil will overcome this....

All oil based products are much better than water based when it comes to keeping water out.

It is not a paint,but a paint product(After all you do paint it on)

You can argue all you like Teejay but I'm certain the EU won't listen.

Yep agree with you sunvalleysue that the EU are unlikely to listen, but then nothing ventured nothing gained.

In the meantime I will continue sealing my awning with an oil based sealing product, while stocks last.

Sounds to me like its worth stockpiling it and then selling it on... there will be a 'black market' in Thomsons sealant LOL!
