Got a good £80 gazebo- the type with 2 pegs per corner and 4 guy wires, and up to 3 walls (we use 2). Trouble is it's shower proof not rain proof so we ended up, last week, slinging a 3m x 3m tarp over it and tying it down. Worked perfectly but can one get a sail maker or similar to put an actual waterproof nylon roof on it? Anyone tried? OR should we go forth and buy a day tent thing?

We tend camp with others and what wiv the English summers and kids we think a communal gazebo tent is very useful.

I'd leave the gazebo at home and get a day tent or event shelter to be honest. Low flying gazebo's are dodgy on campsites.

Yes, I know hence the belt and braces approach we took (we had more guys on that baby than half the TENTS did!- one of our party is an ex-scout leader, Mr Fancy-Knot)!

I genuinely don't feel our gazebo is a health hazard but perhaps we should look at a day tent -however we barely have enough room in our Mondeo estate as it is! Would a day tent be smaller? And would reroofing it be cheaper in the long run?

Your thread has reminded me that I'm taking my gazebo in a couple of weeks as I'll be camping with friends.

Like yours, it's showerproof rather than waterproof, so I plan to take the plastic cover from my cheapo one and put it over the top of the canvas pop-up gazebo.  It's not a perfect fit as the pop-up one is 3m X 3m and the cheap one is 2.5m X 2.5m, but I reckon for the sake of being more water resistant, only losing 25cm around the edge won't be the end of the world.

Maybe in the short term you could get one of the cheap plastic-type ones and just use the cover on top?
