Beginning to think after reading some posts that like car manufacturers, tent maufacturers may produce different brands. Can anyone tell me, which companies are dual (or more) branded?
i am not disagreeing with you san hozay but i am shocked that vango do lichfield cos they are the argos tents arent they that some folk on here say dont touch?
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

Lichfield were damned good tents before AMG bought them out, I still have one from about fifteen years ago.

To be pedantic Vango don't do Lichfield, they are just brands of the same parent group. Nevertheless, if you contact Vango customer services, you get replies from AMG. Presumably the same with Lichfield.
It's not uncommon for a group to have premium and entry-level brands like that. Or unusual brands that you wouldn't expect. There are loads of other examples - Regatta group with Regatta, Craghoppers and dare2b for example. On a different tack, how about Sheba and Whiskas - part of the same group that makes Mars Bars and Uncle Ben's rice? Or consider a group like Unilever - everything from Walls Ice Cream through Vaseline to PG Tips and Pot Noodle.
These corporates are often financial conglomerates of companies that operate largely independently and the manufacturing processes and suppliers aren't necessarily related.

Argos own brand tents are the Pro-Action ones. Lichfield is just another brand that Argos sell, they don't make them or have them made specially for them. Argos sell Coleman tents and Camping Gaz brands as well, remember. And all sorts of brand name goods in other categories.
Lichfield make pretty good tents but they are aimed at the more budget minded camper. They don't make cutting edge design tents but they do make them to the same technical spec as Vango. What you do see often is that after a couple of years a retired Vango design will move on to be made by Lichfield. The Lichfield designs are the more classic and simple ones, so it's a great budget way to buy a good quality tent.

I think I read that Halfords tents and Hi Gear are rebadged Gelerts???
Some of them are...but Halfords do have other tents in their range that appear to be made out of carrier bags held up with garden canes, so I do hope Gelert has nothing to do with these!
Gelert make own brands for other companies as well...isn't Scafell Rock (sp??) from Asda made by Gelert?
