Our recent trip to Naburn Lock in York was curtailed after only 2 days when the front pole over entrance to the tent (Vango V500) snapped clean in two on one side and the strain in the wind caused the other side to snap. Was very windy at the time. Had to crawl into the tent to retrieve all our stuff and then pack up and go home early. Sent the offending pole back to Vango this morning to claim on the Lifetime guarantee. Only our seventh trip in the tent. Should be okay once I get a new pole.
One reason to carry pole spares in the tent repair kit, surely? You could have just mended the pole and carried on with your holiday.
I doubt you'll get any joy from Vango over a snapped pole on strong winds, btw. Their Lifetime Guarantee specifically excludes damage due to extreme weather conditions, not to mention the fact it also excludes damage to poles under any circumstances.
Hi Shandy boy, when were you at Naburn, we were there over the weekend? Where were you pitched? Shame about your tent, hope you get the poles replaced.
does anybody know where i can get spare's for gelert cadiz 7 from looked on link and nothing on there after reading post seems like a good idea to get some bits

Tent poles come in standard diameters so if you take one of each of your current poles to any good camping retailer they'll sort out the sizes for you. Gelert sell a lot of pre-packed spares including pole repair kits, btw, so you won't be stuck.
sorry to hear about your mis-hap, but as an earlier poster said, if you carry a spare set of poles you will be able to do a short term fix, until you can sort it properly. Also carry a spare of anything else you may need, Guys, clingons, tenacious tape, etc. This is some great advice I picked up from this site.

Well, replacing a broken pole section with a new one isn't really a short term fix. It's a permenant repair that basically makes the pole as good as new again, assuming that's the only area of damage. I'm firmly of the opinion that I can restring a pole just as well as anyone in a factory, really. Not rocket science after all!
One tip though is when you reknot the shock cord, leave a longer tail to get hold of next time you need to unstring the pole. I hate having to ferret around up a ferrule trying to get hold of the short end of a knot. I've been known to redo the knots on brand new undamaged poles in advance of breakages, just to save myself hassle on the day.

Not all their stuff is listed on the Tent spares site (The new roof pole for the Khyam Sun Porch I just got wasn't for example).
Better to email them or to ring if you can't see what you want.
Hi Madmum71 yes we were at Naburn Lock from the Friday 31/07/09 until the Sunday. We were pitched in the big field directly across from the reception building. The one that backed onto the main road.
Great news Vango have just send back my tent pole fully repaired. Great customer service. I will now get a set of spare poles for emergencies.
The only tent I have with flexible poles is my mountain tent (a Crux Storm) and the prevalence of broken flexible poles is one reason why I prefer old fashioned tents like my Aruba and Force Ten.
Crux have provided (very considerately) a short piece of tube you can use to "bridge" a broken pole and no doubt duct tape could effect a temporary fix but luckily I haven't had to do that yet.
Sorry your holiday was ruined and that next time "something 'orrid" happens you are able to sort it out.
Glad you got your tent pole sorted, well done vango!
We were there the same weekend, but in the other tent field, must be more sheltered there as the wind wasn't a problem for us. Had a walk round the field you were in and thought it was a bit exposed.
