I have not done it yet, however, I shall test my winter set up at a local campsite about 15min from home in mid Oct 08, in readiness for the South West meet over the New Year weekend down in South Devon.

I aim to bunk off early from work (one of the virtues of flexi hour working), so that I can be at the local campsite when there is still light.

I do not antipate setting up in the dark being an issue, as I shall have lanterns and torches, as well as the car headlights if required.

As for the South West meet in Dec 09, I aim to arrive at the campsite soon after 12:00h in the afternoon.

Not December but we did two winter camps in Feb and March, lots of bedding, only sites with campfires but no EHU! hot water bottles a big help and now I have a canvas tent to avoid that dripping condensation! Go for it, beautiful and REALLY quiet yeehah!

17 I am new to camping but was also wondering about going camping in the cooler months. Just seen the offer in sun and i am going to book for end of september. Can't grumble at £1 a night. There is also a gret farm in north wales were you can camp and in december they have santa and decorate the farm as a grotto. Was thinking of taking my 3 year old. Any tips on keeping warm!

Winter camping sounds great, especially round a campfire!  First went in May this year, that was cold at night but not unbearable.  Not so sure how I would cope in colder months though.

Could be a chance of going to a campfire friendly site in October, do we need any extra kit?  Or is an extra duvet enough?

The farm is called greenacres and its in north wales.  www.greenacresfarmpark.co.uk

I have only been once for the day(not camped yet) its lovely for young kids my daughter is 3 years old. Its £23 per night for up to 4 people  to camp in which entrance is included to farm which is normally £5 adults £4 children i think. Also doing something for halloween to, just saw leaflet in park when i went in june advertising december. The info said they have santa, grotto, real raindeers and nativity scene.

Kerry.

It's great, as there are a lot less people about. (Quiet camping the way I like it) The most important thing to me would be to have a cotton/canvas or polycotton tent. Obviously lots of warm clothing and bedding. (My comment about lots of people excludes meets, where we want to meet lots of people).

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
