Im going camping with my mates in two weeks and looking for a tent/bag.  I also want to use this tent to take the gf away and see if we enjoy camping.

As I'm 6'7" im looking for a tent with a larger length or width, not too bothered about the height just now.  Looking for a cheaper tent to start with see if I/we enjoy camping.

I have been looking at the Vango Alpha 400 as its 2.4m wide so could sleep length ways,  mates currently have 200 and 300 and rate them highly.  Its been suggested to get a 2 person pop up tent that is 2.4-5m long but I think they look a but flimsey and near impossible to strap to a backpack!

Now onto sleeping bags,  I was going to get a Vango Nitestar 250 cheap local (£15)  but it mentions two lengths 1.95 and 2m.  Now i dont think I will be using it like a  mummy with the hood on, just up to shoulders, would this be fine for my needs?

Many Thanks

I can't advice on tent, but I would take a duvet and not bother with a sleeping bag tbh. I am only 5ft 6 and I find them restrictive at the best of times, take a double or king size duvet, lay on one half and wrap the other half over you, that way you can have as much leg room as you need, just keep your sox on so your tootsies don't get cold.

Enjoy your trip

HI  Outdoorlass,  we plan on a bit of a hike before setting up camp so was looking for a sleeping bag so it could be strapped onto my backpack.

Hi.

Are you backpacking ? If so, I'd forget the pop up tent. As you say, impossible to strap to a rucksack, and even if you could, you'd find it difficult to get through doors. It would be funny to watch, though.

Likewise, if backpacking, you should be looking for a sleeping bag which is light and packs down small. Generally, the cheaper the bag, the bulkier and heavier it will be for a given temperature rating. I reckon that sleeping bags are something where you get what you pay for, and that you should look past the marketing hype and brand name snobbery and pretty colours to concentrate on the compromise between temperature, pack size and weight. I've seen backpackers who completely fill their huge rucksack with a cheap sleeping bag, and still complain about the cold.

Of course, if you are car camping, then weight and, to a lesser extent, bulk do not matter so much. But that's another story.

Z

Hi there, don't know if they still do them but my husband and a very tall friend both have "the King" sleeping bag from Blacks.  Not sure on the length, but know it's a long one!!
