Sorry to hear about your loss and the decision to sell your camping gear.
I hope you would reconsider, as solo camping can be just as fun.
I too lost my late partner recently back in Nov 08 due to a boating accident, and my world fell apart. Emotionally I was in pieces, and am still liable to collapse in a heap from time to time.
It was a life changing moment, and I had to make certain adjustments to my lifestyle swiftly as I decided to keep his dog as my own.
I had only ever gone camping with him 4 times since 2006, and had reservations about going camping on my own.
However, I decided that although whoever is up there has a funny sense of humour, life is a b1tch, and it goes on without him.
Hence I decided to go camping on my own, and bought a smaller tent that I could pitch on my own, got a roof box for the gears (we used to take 2 cars), and some compact space-saving gears.
My first solo trip was in Jun 09 back to a campsite that we went last year, and had a jolly good time with Borda.
I had another good trip with him last month, again in a campsite that my late partner and I used before.
I shall go again in mid Sep 09 (postponed from end of Aug/early Sep 09 due to work committment) and stay at a new campsite in an unfamiliar location.
If I could find an EHU pitch close to home for August Bank Holiday weekend, then I shall go again sooner than mid Sep 09, as I am itching to go again.
I must admit life is not the same without my late partner, and I miss him dearly. However, he would not want me to feel sorry for myself, and would want me to enjoy life as much as I could. I know he'll be watching over Borda and me wherever we go.
There are quite a few solo ladies who go camping on their own, perhaps you would like to join us. fran100 started a thread in the Solo and Single Parent Camping section with the aim to organise a trip next year.
Everyone's circumstances are different, and what works for me may not work for other people.
If you decide to sell up, then I would advise eBay or Preloved.co.uk. Preloved may be easier to advertise, however, it may carry higher risk. If you take precautions such as using PayPal, insist of money reaching first before delivery/collection etc., then you should be ok.
I hope you will find rays of sunshine again soon. Take care!
