Well we did it and we are back from our first camping trip in cornwall, well what can i say i loved the experience but some of it seems hard work such as toilets and showers lol maybe just lazy.
Cooking was a pain but i think it was made harder cause it rained however i have not been put off and i love the adventure and will be doing it again soon but told hubby i want a tent with bigger living space hand in pocket me thinks lol
Look at it as a training exersise, you will have learned so much, all I can advise is, if you can get to Southern France at the same time of year, you will find the whole experience ten times easiar, not just because of guaranteed wall to wall sunshine, but also the way sites are geared up, if you can camp in England then you can camp anywhere.
Last time I went to South of France in summer we had some horrendous rainstorms. The ground was so hard we had to buy 6 inch nails at one site - but when it rained they just pulled out of the ground. The "facilities" weren't at all on a par with British ones of the time - no hot water in the unisex showers, just lukewarm salt water.
British camping is much easier IMHO - but I suppose it was 30 years ago, maybe things have improved.
Pleased to hear you survived your first "Adventure", Vampess.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I must have been real lucky, been going to the South of France since 1962, nearly always mid-july for 2 weeks + each time, and in all that time never had rain at the main site, apart from the odd electrical storm at night, but by the time morning comes you would not have known, again as far as pitches I have always managed with regular peg's even though the ground is often baked and dusty, I do carry rock pegs and sand pegs along with a hefty hammer, but they are hardly ever called upon, guess I have been lucky with pitches also.
Would love to got to france camping we stayed at the haven site in perranporth if i go write a review it wont be that great lol but i learned a lot and i now know what to take and what not to lol
The plot was fine it was other things such as not enough room in the enterainment areas of an evening they dont seem to be able to cater for the amount of people there
glad you enjoyed it, we only started last year and after our first trip we learnt a lot about what we need/dont need, had a few days away last week and the weather was horrible but it hasnt put us off, still love it

Life isn't a rehearsal, be all you can be, follow your dreams and live life to the full!!
Glad you had a good time. It is definitely a learning experience and one of the hardest things is choosing a site. We thought we needed all singing and dancing sites for the kids but actually they are quite happy on a small site so long as they have somewhere to run around and play footie or cricket. Personally I wouldnt go to the Haven sites now if you paid me but its down to personal choice and it has taken us a while to work out whats right for us.
Having a tent with somewhere to sit inside, especially when it is raining can make a HUGE difference, as wwe found out on one very wet weekend in our first tent. Being stuck inside with now where to sit, and two small kids was no fun - so as soon as we could afford it we went and bought a far bigger tent with a living area. So glad we did, because when I was away in the summer, the weather wasn't good. I was able to sit inside and keep the kids amused, withoug falling over bags etc.
You get used to dodgin showers, driving 15 miles down the road in the hope that the weather will be better etc.
Glad to hear that you haven't been put off camping.

This was the main reason we changed our tent, looks great in the shop and you imagine using it in the sunshine. Go and buy a tent and imagine using it in the worst British weather you can think of! being sealed in a tent for 3 days of rain with no windows is either is no fun so when checking out a tent zip all the doors down too.
