my girlfirend and I have a suncamp evo 400. it has a sewn in ground sheet.we was thinking of not putting the sleeping pod in next time we go camping as we think it will give us a bit more living space. was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts on this are and if anyone actually does this???
Do what you want! I like the feeling of space outside of the pods. One point - your sillouettes (spelling?) may be visible from the outside at night with light on!!
I don't see why not - after all some of the smaller tents don't have a separate living area, so why the need for bedroom pods in a larger tent. The only reason I can see for them when there is full SIG is possibly to keep the tent a touch tidier.
The only thing I would consider is the creepy crawlies. You bedroom pod will eliminate any potential problem. Without it when your tent is open I reckon you are bound to get some midges and the like inside.
We did similar this week in Wales. We have an Orchy 600 and my girls have decided they are too grown up to share anymore, and the eldest like to escape her sister!! So we split the bedroom pod for them and OH and I slept in the living area.
It worked well for us, we have a sun canopy so that essentially make the living area a bit redundant anyway. It does get brighter in the living area if the sun comes up though
Didn`t work well enough to stop me looking at buying a bigger tent for next summer....or maybe thats my excuse!!!

lol!! im not the only one then who is never satisfied with the size or style of the tent.i allways start thinking i want a differnet tent after a few months.
The only slight drawback I can think of when doing without the bedroom pod is that if condensation build up on the flysheet it could drip directly on you!
On my last trip we had a really warm night so I left my pod completely unzipped - have to say I preferred the more open feel of the larger space and would definately now consider not using the pod.
It is worth remembering that if it is a bit colder at night, it will be warmer inside a smaller bedroom pod. Not sure if that is strictly true but it certainly feels that way.
Its true , definitely warmer inside pod. my sis had to take the bedroom pod out , because the double height mattresses she bought were too big inside the pod. they were freezing all night. This was in may , it was a bit chilly at night , but we were snug inside our bedroom pods, same bedding and same tent. Should be okay this time of year though .
Edit to say , big tent, outwell nevada xl . May not be so noticeable in a smaller tent.
Yes there will be a temperature difference, for a simple reason. The smaller space of a bedroom pod is easier to heat up with your body warmth; I certainly noticed the difference in temperature when I first swapped from a little dome tent to a stand-up height dome tent with tall bedrooms.
The bedroom pod and the living area in my tent are pretty similar in size.....however I always get cold before the kids, who never do....but then that might just be me
