By this I mean, a box with tent repair kit etc in it. We are new to camping and after each trip we are starting to get together an emergency/repair kit. So far:
tent repair patches
airbed repair kit
spare guy ropes
gaffer tape
As you can see I have come to a halt!
So now for your ideas, what would you put in it...................
we have various bungies and plastic crock clips cus between them and the stuff you already have you can fix or bodge most stuff. Tie down kit. we carry bikes etc and also have a small set of like allen keys/sockets/spanners. My inlaws dont go anywhere without the storm poles. Spare loo lid. microfibre cloths, small first aid kit,
you will find you will add stuff as you think of it or as you see something in a shop that you think "OH that would be good in case......"
For inside I have extra guys and tent hanging hooks etc. sewing kit. peg , pole hangers, sun cream, moisturiser, pack of cards and yhatzee
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
A small fire extiguisher. A bucket of water is almost as good, doubling as a cooler for Guinness, milk etc., but NEVER use it on an oil or fat fire! Dont take too much - I once put a box of heavy tools in the boot which I subsequently needed to replace the road spring which had failed under the weight of the toolbox!
Spare tent pole elastic shock cord is handy not just for repairing poles , but for hanging up lights, and repairing snapped elastic hangers on bedroom pods (when the kids have been bouncing on the airbeds).
Screwdriver, pliers and a scissors , always end up needing one or other for something.
We make sure we have a multi tool with us, so that we can cut, tweeze, poke etc whatever needs it!
Agree that tent pole elastic is a must (if you have fibreglass poles) and a threader kit are essentials. Hi Gear do a pack that has a roll of elastic and wire threader for about £7 - we have found that pliers are best for feeding a wire threader through.
Tenacious tape is the best for tent repairs as it is clear and does not stick out like a sore thumb when you use it.
<We make sure we have a multi tool with us> - beat me to it. I'll leave home without credit cards, food, maps, even Mrs Cube - but not without my Leatherman. Other makes are just as good, perhaps better, but the £3 or 'free with 10 Litres' just won't stand up to real life. To add to what has already been suggested, I take 2" Duck Tape and a big hand full of various length plastic cable ties (aka zip ties?). Been able to splint a fractured pole in an extreme storm with tape and ties and any excuse will see the Leatherman produced. We also leave a double AAA Maglite in the car as a safety back up next to a spare bottle of Jack - for similar needs.
Best thing about a spares and repairs kit is not needing it - oh, nearly forgot, two wire coat hangers provide hanging and splinting material.
God I need to be getting quite a list going! hubby already takes leatherman on EVERY holiday we go on!!! his parents bought if for his birthday a few years back and it is brilliant, a few years back when our youngest was a baby we went in a static and had to move the double bed to get the travel cot in!!!
Now off to research all the elastic, pole, tape stuff!
