I've talked about my OH and his moaning at camping before but gosh it's driving me nuts. We've just returned from Devon and we all had a lovely time but he keeps saying he's not going camping again. He sees it as too much like hard work. Its upset me recently because I do all the planning/packing etc - all he needs to do is help with the tent.
So all of you out there - is there one of you that loves it and the other hates it?
I have a solution - buy another tent! Something smaller and easier to put up <IMG alt=17 src="https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley4.gif" align=absMiddle>
The planning and packing are part of the camping enjoyment, for me. Perhaps you could try and involve him more.
I do all the planning, and get everything organised.
DH packs the car...
We both put the tent up.
DH's pet hate is packing it all away again - because the order I can pack it is not the order it needs to go in the car so he gets stressed its not all gonna fit the same and keeps saying he can't start loading the car till everything is packed which drives me nuts as he is standing around waiting for me to pack clothes, food etc. when to my mind he could be loading chairs, tables, sleeping bags etc.
He has no tolerance for 'overnighting' in the tent which is a pity.
I always did everything, planning, packing, sorting kids, driving, map reading, and still other half moaned, If I was to say shall we go away this weekend he would look at me like I was nuts and tell me we had already had a holiday this year.
i am male and love camping. my kids and wife also enjoy camping. HOWEVER, I hate basic camping.
we take blow up sofa's, lcd tv, ps3, cupboards for storage, 3 heaters (2 gas 1 thermostatic electric to be left on all night). However, without the options we have i don't think i would like camping for longer than weekends as it irritates me.
I am sure if you talked to your other halfs and found a style of camping they would enjoy you might get more joy out of them. It worked for me!
------------- Camped since 2008 and still loving it!
Blimey I wish I was single again sounds to me like a lot of you lovely ladies need a real man to care for you.
I think I will start a camping escort service, where a nice hunk dressed in leather shorts turns up and pitches your tent sets every thing up for you and then cooks you a nice meal while you sit in the chair and watch. Think I am turning would quite fancy that myself!

Ha ha!
We take the PSP's etc in fact in the past we've even taken the Playstation. I've bought things to make it nicer such as a fancy airbed but he just thinks I like spending money. Which I do!
I think I'm lucky! When OH first mentioned camping it was me that was saying no! Howver, when we went to look at tents and we chose the Outwell Iowa L i changed my mind - I had visions of a small 2 person pop up tent that you would have to crawl into - and that just doesn't suit me!
Now it is me that has chosen and booked everysite this year (and I can't believe how may "holidays" you can get in year when camping) - I just tell him when and where we are going. We both load the car, pitch - de pitch etc EXCEPT HE DOES ALL THE COOKING!!! YIppee!!
I've said cooking outside on the gas stove is just like the BBQ so it's deifinately a man thing!!

Hunk in leather shorts? I wouldn't care if you were a wrinkled gnome in a nightie as long as you came and did the rest, lol.
I enjoy the setting up and find it goes much more smoothly when I do it on my own, at my own pace.
Mr Fran wouldn't ever go away anywhere if he was left to his own devices. Even for our honeymoon, I had to show him the holiday I wanted in the brochure, and tell him when we ought to go. He's too lazy to organise anything.
I let him have the impression he has a say in it all by doing all the research, then presenting him with 2 or 3 options, all of which are equally acceptable to me and explaining in detail why my first choice is the best option. He'll ask one or two questions, then he'll agree with me, and think we've had a meaningful debate about all the pros and cons.
He does get the stuff out of the loft and help load the car though.
both my oh and i love camping moaning is due to being tired always have a brew on the go when putting up the tent and work as a team it is this which makes it a great pastime.
Well he's since had a change of heart (not sure if someone has had a word with him) as he's been asking about our next trip to Ripon, he's even been talking about it to family members. It seems a little strange. Saying that, he has had a few earfuls recently so maybe its worked and I did say I'd go on my own.
But then he caught me looking at tents on the net and he said NO WAY are we getting another one.
I am lucky, we both love camping as does dd, so we all tend to pitch in. Our worst thing is looking at other peoples kit and talking ourselves into buying things.
