We have just returned from our first camping trip as a family, one that was possibly not meant to happen….but we are glad it did. We had planned to travel on Friday at mid day. On Wednesday the pre holiday problems started when the starter motor on my car went, managed to get it replaced on Thursday, so already for a mornings work Friday and then off.
Wrong! Finished work drove to a store to pick up a couple of last minute purchases. Gear box goes in the car park. Head in hands…..Fortunately our friends we were going with have 2 cars so they came over to our house to meet us while had the car towed home.
Some background here, our first camping trip as a family one that my wife reluctantly agrees too, so long as the camp site we book has the best facilities and we get a portable toilet. Now given this on friends recommendation we booked what turned out to be a fantastic site with great facilities and the kids haven’t laughed so much in ages. So much so that a weekends camping has seemed like a week, the wife (even though she won’t admit it) is virtually hooked. We have a list of things that must be brought if we are to go again…..we of course being the loving husband I will get…lol !!!
Thanks to everyone on here for their experience and advise, it has proved invaluable, especially the adivce about trial runs, except for working on packing the car before hand proved a waste of time given the problems with car.
Ohhh and the missus has already got tent envy…..Must remind myself to steer clear of camping shops until next pay day.
