Just packed the car, wow! We have a Berlingo so plenty of room, should be. We have everything crammed upto the roof space in. Think this first trip will be a good indication as to what we need and what we can do without next time. The kids have no room  in the back either, lol!

Already dreaming of trailers, how sad, lol!! DH is doing his nut.

Really excited about the trip and cant wait till morning.

I've been contemplating  a roof box. We have a mondeo and its a struggle to get eveything in (as well as 2 dogs), Used to have a trailer before got into camping, But diden't really have the room to store it. Mind you going to have to get roof rack first!!!

My advice would be - don't bother with a roofbox - go straight for a trailer.

I got a roofbox for my C3 and it was OK but I then went for a towbar and trailer - it cost me less than the roofbars and the roofbox and EVERYTHING goes in it! Not only that but you have something that is of some use for other stuff - like a trip to the tip etc - and you can keep a lot of the camping bits in the trailer at home. Just hook up and go.

Got the towbar for £45 on ebay and the trailer was £40 in Friday-Ad - I just stripped it down and cleaned it all up. The whole lot owes me about £120. Roofbox and bars cost me more than that.

If you have a Citroen they have really easy to get to mounting holes for the towbar and the electrics are reasonably simple to fit if you can use a mulitmeter.

Berlingo Towbar on ebay at the moment - item 170372778617.

We just went camping for the first time with a trailer last week. We hired a 5 x 4 with a locking top. The hire was only £20 for 4 days which I thought was very good. It also means we know what size of trailer to buy now, I would have gone for a smaller one but seeing how full it was there's no way!

why limit yourself?  i have roofbox and trailer, but getting a second roofbox (the other is going on the trailer!

Space is a premium, but if you turn to glamping like me you start think of hiring a luton for a week!

I must admit that I have spent the day modifying an old MK2 Golf roof rack to fit on top of the trailer! It flips up so you can easily open the trailer lid.

Don't actually need the space at the moment but I got the roof rack and bars for £5 and it was like new so I thought it might be useful to have the option of extra space if I need it.  Just had to narrow the roof rack by 3" and make some extended brackets to rivet onto the original brackets.

Now I have tried it I really like not having anything in the cabin of the car when we go away. Seems to make for a much more relaxing drive rather then having stuff everywhere and keeps the inside of the car nice and clean and tidy!!

Anyway - nothing wrong with a spot of glamping!!

i like having room to spare in the trailer then if you pack up in the rain you don't need to be so fussy how its packed as its coming out at home to dry away. And when the tent is down roll it up any how don't worry about putting it in the bag either just in the trailer sort out at home. Trailer is the way to go, get it bigger than you need

Cant believe the price of the tiniest of trailers from places like Halfords. £300+ for something not much bigger than a suitcase.

Absolutely! Ninety per cent of our gear 'lives' in the trailer full stop. Fortunately we have safe inside storage for it, so when we fancy setting off, we only have to put the sleeping bags, food, a box of kitchen equipment, and our clothes into the car. We prefer to keep the cooking pots and pans in the house, so it can be thoroughly cleaned and dried between uses.

Once we have 'finished' for the seaon, ill empty it and make sure theres nothing bent, broken or badly positioned, then repack it ready for next year. Ready to hitch up and go.

Hi the Bonds. Yea it's a great tent (though not actually had the chance to use it yet lol), Itching to get it out there, Hoping to go up the lake district for a few days around the 5th sept. As with regards to trailers i must admit i do miss mine. It was a 6x4 aluminium one that i bought when i got my house for many trips to the tip!. Got it out of loot for not much. If i still had it now i could certainly fit all our camping stuff in it. Mmmmm my minds ticking over now!!. We are also after a porch for our tent. Gelert Horizon looks favourite....
