Use the autumn/winter months to gather your camping equipment together.
Concerntrate on buying the essentials - good quality sleeping bags, something to sleep on, cooking equipment, table and chairs etc.....but don't go mad (very tempting as it is!!) Depending on how and when you want to camp, things like EHU (electric hook up), cool box, carpet for tents, wardrobes, camp kitchen, utility tent, windbreaks may or may not be classed as essential and are things you can gather together slowly. Also ask friends and family to buy you camping stuff for Christmas and birthday presents!!
Start to plan some trips away - it really gives you something to look forward to! Personally I would stay close to home for your first trip away (maybe within an hour's drive) If you leave something essential behind you'll be near enough to pop home and get it!
Popular sites are already taking bookings for 2010 so if there is a site you really want to visit (especially if its during the school holidays or Bank Holiday) it might be worth enquiring now.
If you haven't done so already, consider joining the Camping & Caravanning Club (C&CC) as they have some beautiful sites and being a memeber allows you access to their CS sites.
Use the search facility on this forum to help you find potential sites and read the site reviews (honest comments by campers who have stayed there)
Hope your OH recovers soon and you enjoy your camping.
