Yes I agree we should all be responsible for ourselves and be 'aware' but although I always check the weather before going away.....while I am away I find I don't want or have access to tv, radio, papers etc so am often oblivious to any sudden weather changes /warnings!
So yes it is very useful when a couple of sites that I frequent put a weather forecast printout near the loos!
I do think though that the smaller sites in more 'exposed' areas seem to go out of their way to let you know of any 'forecast of doom' and only one person has to be told before word spreads around the site....someone kindly advised me of high winds forecast one evening this July...it didn't amount to much that night as it turned out, but we were all prepared and had battened down the hatches!
In fact the last two years when we have had very high winds one campsite owner was out in the middle of the night checking everyone was ok which is nice to know.....I know they had also asked people to move to a more sheltered ( ok, ever so slightly less exposed) field when a very severe weather warning was given......if I was running a site it is someting I would do....it's not mollycoddling, it's just passing on local knowledge /info that they have easy access to.
I certainly don't need anyone to hold my hand but am grateful for any weather warnings I am not aware of and would pass this info on to my camping neighbours......and I'm sure they'd be very grateful too!
