We were camping recentley when the winds struck gusting to 45mph poss more in places, and at no time during our stay were any warnings given to the residents.

Needless to say some tents faired better than others with some collapsing altogether.

Your  comments would be gratefully rec

When we went to beddgelert (forest experience) they posted a very brief weather forecast in the shop. I don't know if they would have warned about severe weather but this is the only place I have been where I have seen any kind of weather indicator.

I check the weather forecast regularly on my phone's web browser and essentially see it as my responsibility to know roughly what is in store.

It would be thoughtful of sites to pre-warn campers of any severe weather warnings bearing in mind not all people have the means to check it for themselves.

We stayed on the C&CC site at Rhandirmwyn last week and the next couple of days weather was posted on the reception door so you could see what it was going to be like. We actually left the day before we were due to as the forecast showed lots more rain coming in and our tent had finally just dried out from the last lot so it was a great help.

Trouble is, when have you ever seen a 100% accurate forecast? last week in Cornwall I checked the weather sites every night and 75% of the time they got the next days weather wrong. BBC being the worst of the lot.

You are not wrong i had as per previous comment my laptop and using my phone as the wi-fi connection, yet even when the forecast said it was sunny it was wet outside and vicer versa. Not sure what you could do. The shipping forecast seemed the only accurate one although and we were only a mile from that they were forecasting 8-9 which didnt happen. More of 5-6

A lot of sites post a weather forecast in the office or on the door. I think it's a great idea, althoguh we always listen to it on the radio.

I stayed at Trawsdir, Barmouth this week there was a weather update posted in reception and the site staff did come round to check everyone on site was ok as strong winds were forcast and it was extremely windy on several days. I know some other families left early though.

Hmmmmmmm isn't it up to each of us to make sure we are aware of the incoming weather? In this increasingly litigous society I can see a situation where site owners are sued by campers because they failed to issue a warning. I doubt it would have much chance of success in court, but some  numpty would be bound to try it on.

No, come on, lets be realistic, this is Britain where the weather is variable and with the effects of global warming becoming less predictble and possibly more violent. Are we so molly coddled that we need someone to hold our hand incase it gets overly wet and windy?

Rant over

A short disclaimer might sort out the litigation surely?

Yes I agree we should all be responsible for ourselves and be 'aware' but although I always check the weather before going away.....while I am away I find I don't want or have access to tv, radio, papers etc so am often oblivious to any sudden weather changes /warnings!

So yes it is very useful when a couple of sites that I frequent put a weather forecast printout near the loos!

I do think though that the smaller sites in more 'exposed' areas seem to go out of their way to let you know of any 'forecast of doom' and only one person has to be told before word spreads around the site....someone kindly advised me of high winds forecast one evening this July...it didn't amount to much that night as it turned out, but we were all prepared and had battened down the hatches!

In fact the last two years when we have had very high winds one campsite owner was out in the middle of the night checking everyone was ok which is nice to know.....I know they had also asked people to move to a more sheltered ( ok, ever so slightly less exposed) field when a very severe weather warning was given......if  I was running a site it is someting I would do....it's not mollycoddling, it's just passing on local knowledge /info that they have easy access to.

I certainly don't need anyone to hold my hand but am grateful for any weather warnings I am not aware of and would pass this info on to my camping neighbours......and I'm sure they'd be very grateful too!
