My partner and I go camping as often as we can, but not often enough for my liking! I'd like to start going away for 1/2 nights on my own with the dog, if he's got football or something else on.

Does anyone have any tips for a single girl camping with a dog? I'll probably won't go too far, so he can join me for a second night or in case anything goes wrong.

I'm a dab hand at putting up / taking down tents on my own (only taking a small teepee though, not our big tent) as I like to take over when we start setting up!

My main query is how to get over the restriction of having the dog with me. I can always leave her in the car for short periods, like if I need the loo or something.

Any tips from fellow solo-campers would be gratefully recieved! Plus suggestions of good campsites in Northumberland please! We like Winshields campsite at Bardon Mill but always on the lookout for alternatives to try. Basic is best!

Thanks everyone

Lou

I camp with my 10 year old and our greyhound, and this is also a problem for us, especially as our dog is vocally unhappy if left in the car!

Firstly, find a dog friendly pub, you can always have a nice meal then!

Secondly, the English Heritage attractions allow dogs in to most of their sites, and there is lots of these in your area.

We camped at Hadrians Wall camping in July which we found to be a really nice site; quiet, traditional with a decent shower block.

Have fun, we love taking our dog although she does make it a bit more difficult, she's worth it!!

I camp on my own with two dogs.

I take a folding crate, big enough for both of them, to go in the tent. I shut them in there when I go for a shower. If I'm just going to the loo, I take them with me and tie them up outside.

Pubs are a bit more difficult when you're on your own, you have to find a dog loving stranger to hold their leads when you go for a wee!

I camp with my partner and friends but still Homer my dog is high maintenance

I can't leave him with the others to go the loo, for a shower or anything

I have to bring him with me everywhere.  If i tie him outside the shower block tho he is quite happy to wait without howling

Err he's a bit clingy...17

Yep, my dog's clingy too! She would cry and cry if I tied her up and left her anywhere, even just for a minute. She's good in the car though, that'll probably be the solution.

If i was on a campsite and someone needed their dog watched for a while so they could get a meal prepared or go for a shower , i would gladly watch a dog if it helped out and my kids always fuss over dogs anyway . But if you don't ask for help some people won't know you need it

Hi , ive been camping twice now with my dog, both times at the camping and caravan club site in keswick. Its an ideal location, I found three pubs and the rugby club that allow dogs,so do a lot of the shops. I know all dogs have different characters, but i just planned my weekends around long walks and she was fine. When i need a shower i asked my neighbours to keep an eye on her and she was ok. good luck.

I often go away with our 2 Bichons for a week here and there. Infact I will be down your way in a couple of weeks time.

They stay in the car if I need to leave them for short periods. Shopping, Loo etc. But they stay with me at all other times.

One sleeps in a crate because he is young and still learning his camping skills but the older one sleeps wherever he can snuggle up to me, usually behind my knees.
