For me thats what camping is all about , good cheap holidays outside in the open air and sleeping under canvass.
Especailly in the current econmic climate, however I think a few campsites especailly inthe Cornwall area have taken advantage of the economic climate and the fact many mnay more are switching to camping , and therfore put their prices up alot, compared to last year.
We are seriously considering giving up camping due to the rise in costs, it seems to have turned into BIG business money making now a days !!!

Year 2 and totally hooked - 4 trips this year and really sad that no more until next year (work/holiday with in-laws putting paid to any more trips b4 end October!
I would echo that this sit is great and always has loads of useful and friendly advice, thanks all you experienced campers!
We used to have a boat (very small, nothing posh) and I find that campers are like boaters, really friendly and nice.

Hi
This was our first year for camping. My OH has camped as a child, cubs etc. and with friends. We love it, the children really enjoyed it when we went a few weeks ago. I am addicted to this website and can't wait to invest in a new tent next spring. Camping is the way forward for us.

Similar tale from me too........camped as a kid and never thought my OH would go for it, but she did!
As a few have said, we have bought a quality tent with the thinking that if we don't like it we can't blame the equipment lol! Well nedd not have worried our first trip was a breeze. The tent practically piched it'self and other than being a little cold first night (sorted with blankets on top of the airbeds) it was great.
Certainly hope to get away at least once more this year, but really looking forward to going full steam next year!

Definately 1st timer here.....haven't even got my tent yet!!
OH used to camp with her 1st hubby years ago, only decided a few weeks back we'd fancy going with her son/partner and grand kids.
I'm dead keen and can't wait till next year when we start going, bit of a daunting task at the minute trying to decide what kit to get.....have got specifications for things coming out of my earholes so any advice from you experts will not fall on deaf ears!!

Also new this year, hubby camped when he was about 14 with scouts and me and kids have NEVER camped, regularly go in a static caravan and walk near campsites and last year joked to hubby that we should try it, he was dead against it. Then this spring he has us all out looking at tents etc and I got really panicky and actually sat him down and said " I know I said I fancied camping but I am willing to admit I was wrong and it really is not for us, please don't do it" but he did...................
First weekend we were booked to go the weather looked awful, three kids were less than enthusiastic (especially 13 yr old son!) but off we went..........and had the BEST time ever, never been so relaxed and had such a good laugh together in our own, normal family unit. Been since and would love to go once more this year but work commitments may squash that idea. I am not a summer person, usually love winter and look forward to autumn, but dare I say it, I have actually enjoyed this summer and will be a bit sad to see it go.

Like a few people I camped quite a bit in my early 20's then we started seeing the rest of the world.
My daughter is now 10 and has been to nearly 20 different countries, and I got to thinking earlier this year, after snowboarding to France and a 3 weeker to South Africa! that I really should show her the England I feel so patriotic about!!
So, we started in July at Hadrians Wall for a week and then did the Yorkshire Dales (Swaledale & Wensleydale) for a week in August. I'm a Northerner in my heart I think.
The verdict - WE absolutely LOVE IT. I love sharing my favourite parts of England with her, but I also love the closeness camping brings. We have time to chat and while away the hours, and at the end of the day we snuggle up together and fall asleep. Very special memories indeed.
Unfortunately I would not be able to sacrifice exploring the rest of the world, so next year we are planning a main holiday (or two!) overseas with lots of 4/5 day camping trips fitted in.
