Was planning to go to Delamere Forest with my kids and my mate with his kids tomorrow night & Saturday night. Ive got my Outwell which is pretty stable, he was going to use my old Halfords effort.
Just checked Met Office, winds of 21mph gusting to 35mph - would you go or leave it?
I'm typing this from a campsite atm in NL with 46km winds. We are in a Basecamp Ambato 5 and the tent is holding up great. The wind can be annoying but with a good tent you should be fine. If your friend runs into trouble he can always drag his sleeping bag in with you guys :P
I'm in suffolk and my neighbours wirly gig washing line has just been bent in two by the wind , so I personnally wouldnt risk my lovely tent in this wind.................

21 mph - you've been to Shell Island man - where's your sense of adventure gone - it's only Delamere Forest. <IMG alt=17 src="https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley36.gif" align=absMiddle>
That just made me laugh outloud its a very good point! however i didnt have to consider the halfords situation on that occasion! Theres a 4 inch gap between the flysheet and the floor im worried the thing will go into orbit!
Guy the Halfords special down properly and I'm sure it'll be ok. Next door neighbours have got a small Halfords dome than has been sitting in their garden, just pegged out with no guys, over the past few days of really really heavy wind...and it hasn't budged an inch.
the only tent which stood up to winds on shell island is the one i own and they are not made anymore but you need to remember you have to put them up and in winds of this speed you have no chance!
Delamere pretty sheltered (and currently not windy as am about 1 mile from site as i type) have had my Vango Omega up all week, part way up the hill just near the site, with no problem.
Well after all that rang Delamere and they were full. So quick change of plan and a trip to Cwmlanerch at Betwsy Coed undertaken instead. Met Office forcasting strong winds so was still a bit wary....got there not a breath of wind, perfect couple of nights, only our two tents and two others on the entire site, perfect!
