Just seen this in October's Camping mag. What do you reckon? will it last? good concept?

I reckon it would be a good idea for first time campers to see if they would actually like camping without spending loads on new equipment.

yeah but that is just one site! the tent 2 hire facility will send out the chosen tent (from their website) to any UK address then the "customer" can erect the tent on their chosen campsite.

Its a great idea, but unsure if they will make money, so might not be round for to long.

Yeah you can hire the tent...Dont say anything about equipment...So I presume you need to take your own..Only time I can see any diehard camper using this service is if theres a last minute hitch with your own tent (say the day before your hols) Could be handy also If your going a fair distance camping...and decide to save space in the car/trailer by leaving the tent at home and hiring one...I think If I were a 1st time camper...unsure if I liked it or not and was hiring a tent to try it...I'd be wanting some gear included!!! The object being to try the whole camping experiance without to much initial outlay in case it goes pear shaped!!!

There is some equipment for hire, if you look down the links on the left. I can't see any cookers though, but i guess that would mean alot more expense for them with safety testing and that.

Just from a quick look if you were to hire a 6 berth tent, table & 4 chairs, 1 double & 2 single airbeds, 1 double & 2 single sleeping bags it would be £138 for 6-12 days which doesn't seem too bad, although i can't see mention if there are any extra costs for delivering equipment as well as tent, and of course you'd need to get other things too.

I don't think we'd ever have hired stuff, but i can see why people would, especially if they're used to forking out +££££'s for their holidays.

On the delivery section is says delivery from £8 each way, so at least another £16 on top of hire costs.

Sorry, i should have said the £138 was including tent delivery, but can't see if the equipment hire adds extra to delivery.

i phoned them yesterday, tried emailing them but it kept getting sent back to me. we have all the stuff except a EHU and the pitch we have in a couple of weeks come with electric whether we want it or not so i thought it might be a good idea to hire a lead and see how we get on with it.

delivery is now £9 each way which made the EHU £23 for the weekend so we decided we aren't going to bother, if we lived close enough to collect i would hane done though.

I think its quite a good idea for someone who wants to try camping without committing to buying all the gear. Although I think its a bit expensive with regard to the smaller tents. The Dart DS200 is currently only 29.99 in go outdoors, so it would probably work out cheaper just buying one and if you dont like it selling it on ebay or the likes.

Good idea though!

I wonder how long they would last though, used tents do tend to look manky sometimes.. also if there was bad wind, and a pole snapped and split the tent, or badly pitched and something happened to the tent that made it un useable, what kind of insurance would be needed that would mean the hirer isnt charged for a replacement tent.....cant see it working. Too many difficulties...(sorry I am a real pessimist sometimes...)

I am hoping to find a location for our 20th wedding anniversary that we can camp at after the party and would possibly use this kind of service for peeps who don;t have their own tents .

Thanks for the comments, I most likely will recommend this to friends that would be first time campers. I've used something like this in the past for a one off occasion and it worked quite well. The only thing I find lacking is the other accessories that you would need.

We used the company this year (August) and all the equipment was in great condition. The camp kitchen was brand new in the box (Vango Camp kitchen).

One thing we were able to do was hire both air beds and self inflating mats to see which we preferred. To our surprise we much preferred the Vango double self inflating mat. We liked it so much we went out and bought one...but glad we had the opportunity to try it out first.

We did have a tent on hire (Vango Tigris 600) for £70 for 12 days. However I cancelled the tent (hired the equipment only) after finding the deal on here for a Nevada M for £160 which I knew I could sell on ebay for around £190.

They primarily rent Ski equipment and have branched into camping rental to fill the summer months. They have a had a very busy summer this year!
