We were in Pembrokeshire that same week, we did stick it out for the week, had a few hairy moments...but the weather was fab the 2nd half of the week.
Admittedly our site was not as exposed as Three Cliffs, which is windy at the best of times. We did take our canopy down to reduce the size of the setup so the wind didn`t drag so much

Sorry to jump in, but does anyone know if round the corner and North is subject to windy conditions generally ? We were looking at Fishguard Bay for next summer.
One review does mention guys being ripped away from a Cabanon (!!) due to high winds.
Anyobody visit Fishguard this year ?

I live a couple of miles away from Fishguard..(Dinas Cross)
Lower town is lovely....as is the Gwaun valley.

Oh...to add...Fishguard:it can get windy in exposed areas.....but nothing too severe. Use a Tie down kit.
We used one for our Apache drive away awning on our vw camper when we camped at Three Cliffs bay in May 2006. It was a very wet and windy weekend.
The marquee nearly became a huge kite...so we decided not to keep that erected...it nearly took off taking a couple of children with it when it was attempted to be put up.
Our awning with tie down, did us proud.
Rain? Never seen anything like it. When we woke next morning, the puddle of water behind the vans was so big, there were ducks swimming on it...I kid you not!!!

Thanks for the info Jayne. It sounds as if the whole coast there is beautiful, but potentially subject to weather from the west.
Helpfully, Fishguard provide a pitch map.
If we do firm up we'll try and book a sheltered corner on the site
Thanks again.

We stayed at Trellyn in Abercastle 1st week in August....and mid August last year, we were subjected to some fairly horrid conditions last summer and one bad night this summer.
We too the vango, we lost the canopy one night and it was a bit hairy....but we survived...and the area is so lovely we`re risking it next May too

Hi Jo
Sorry to hear the canopy went, but pleased there's another Orchy which didn't collapse ! Maybe we're the only two putting it up right
Sounds like the area is worth a trip, with due care for pitching.

Three Cliffs Bay is, for my money, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain and it's well worth a bit of wind to wake up to that view.
When we were there, we camped near the top, on the right hand side as you enter the field. You can get in the lee of a wall and some trees there so it's a bit more sheltered. You also get a lovely view across the valley to the ruined castle.
I remember the first time I visited that beach (we found it quite by chance when we went to the Gower for the day from Aberdare) we stood on the sand looking at the tents on the clifftop and said "They must be mad to pitch their tents there". It must have been 15 years later that I camped and saw just how mad they were!
Any clifftop pitch is bound to be windy, really.
