Having only started camping earlier this year & reading this great site, I only recently found out about Delta ground anchors. I've read so many posts about the strength of these pegs so I ordered enough to try on the extension for my Montana 6. They arrived today & initially I'm very impressed. These beauties feel as solid as a rock. I test drove one into the back grass & couldn't budge it although when pulled correctly it came straight out with my bare hands.

The real test come in 2 weeks time at the Sherwood Forest Campsite.....bring it on!!!17

I keep thinking about deltas (sad but true).

I know there's been loads of posts on them, but I've not seen an "idiots guide" on their actual use, ie hammering in, and extraction.

From their site I can see  Delta do an extractor, but looking at their pegs I can't see how you'd use it, if they were hammered flush with the ground. There's no hole for a puller ? Are they hammered in slightly proud of the earth ?

How did you pull yours out ? Do they come out easily if you pull them at the same angle as the "below ground" bit ?

I remove my Delta Pegs with these. The regular peg pullers are flimsy and useless.

You hammer them in flush to the ground. To get them out, you just pull out from the direction the underneath bit went in . they come out fairly easily with bare hands.

If theres one thats stuck , I start it off with a claw hammer under it.

Hi Mike. We supply an instruction sheet with each order (or should do). Here is a copy courtesy of Papa Pip. Instructions

You should be able to remove the pegs with your fingers as I did this morning but if not, a puller can be placed under the striking surface. I expect ours are a little better at this because they are short and strong (but still work with other pegs).
The puller can also be used with the stainless version by sliding it down the side of the peg and hooking under the intersection.

Delta pegs should be level with the ground when in use.

Thanks to uptheiron, glad you're pleased. 17

You've made a wise choce with the Deltas; they are an excellent product and will serve you well. Make sure that you follow the instructions on hammering them in the ground.

However I do find that they don't always come out of the ground easily and my peg-puller doesn't get the best grip on the Deltas. I have found that the best thing id using the hook end on this mallet from Decathlon. The Deltas come out first time every time when I use it.

I have 4 steel deltas & use them on the main guys towards the prevailing winds.

I then use steel pegs on other main guys & large coloured pegs on others. Around the bottom I use the old ones supplied as they are the weakest.

I sometimes wish suppliers didnt bother supplying pegs as they could reduce the price: eg i bought two windbreaks to match the tent & the pegs supplied were pathetic - had to put some of my decent ones in.  This set up has got us through two tail ends of hurracanes over the yars when bigger, better & more expensive tents/set ups have failed.

But thinking about it - some tents dont look like they have many guys/pegs - maybe I am over cautious??

Must admit - I am thinking about another set of deltas - the plastic ones as i have the steel ones)

Cheers Lor

Just returned from our trip to Fort William ,Scotland. We suffered 45mph winds in our Nebraska xl , all i can say is thank goodness ( or Rob Orr ) for Delta Anchores, as they saved our holliday and our tent.

Another thumbs up for Delta's here, we use them for complete peace of mind, they just don't budge whatever the wind strength, also have never had to replace one, so they may appear expensive, but over the long run are cheap. If you have trouble extracting them what I do is pour some water around the ground where the peg is anchored and wait about 5 minutes, you can pull them out by hand with ease.
