Were going on our first trip with EHU. But only for a little heater to keep the chill off last thing and first thing in the morning, it is going to be a bit chilly at the end of october, I would like some advice as to which is the best ( and worst ) for this job. don't intend on spending too much though.
We have an Outwell Fan heater...which with two small children is essential...boy do they whinge if cold!!
It does not oscillate but seems to do a good job at keeping the chill out of the tent. I suggest looking for a camping specific one with auto cut-off for peace of mind. the outwell one has a switch in one of the feet so if it falls over it turns off.
We have one that oscillates as well I reckon if you have a of tent with more than one room you need one that oscillates. Also we put ours low down on a box etc as the heat rises pretty quick (I know this sounds obvious but we used to put ours on a table without realizing how much heat we were wasting ) we also leave it on all night but as in the previouspost it has a cut out underneath.
------------- What is this life if,full of care,we have no time to stand and stare
we also use a small fan heater that will switch off if it falls over, also use a small plug in timer. so if we go out for the day and expect to come back to the tent on a chilly evening, we can have the heater and light to come on about an hour before we arrive. nothing like getting back to a lovely warm tent on a cold, wet evening, bliss.
------------- fresh air, lager and no work. who could want more?
i bought a halogen heater, but its too big,i turned it on when it got dark and the tent lit up that much i bet everone one the campsite was laughing,my wife made me turn it off cos it looked like baby jesus was being born in our tent, all we needed was a choir to start singing.very warm though...
Fan heater with thermostat for us - bought at a car boot sale for £2 during a particularly chilly October trip!!
Some people don't like the continual humming of a fan heater but I actually find it quite soothing. We set it on the 1kw setting and then turn the temperature guage down to about half way. It then clicks on and off as and when needed. It heats our Khyam Ontario 8 up in about 10 minutes and we've never had a problem with condensation (but I do tend to keep the rear vents open 24/7)
