Hi All

After many years my wife and I have decided to take the plunge and take up camping again.

The last time we camped was in my old Blacks Good Companion with extended flysheet. This was a great tent for it's day but the wife wasn't too keen on the fact that the flysheet didn't have a sewn in groundsheet (draughts & bugs were free to come & go!!!!)

This summer we went to the Tribfest Music Festival in Beverley and marvelled at all the brilliant tents (With SIGs!!!!!) and decided there & then to go camping again.

So up I went into the loft and dug the Good Companion out but sadly it seemed that this was no longer up to the job (Due mainly to no SIG for the wife) so a new tent was necessary.

We trolled the local outlets (Winfields,Yeomans, Waudbys) and decided a tunnel tent was for us (on the off chance our 16 yr old son might tag along we didn't want to be sleeping side by side!!!)

We plumped for the Gelert Horizon 6 and then spent a month or so trolling EBay and local ads (& also replacing other camping equipment I couldn't locate in the loft) until I found what I am hoping is a bargain (I'll let you know if I have any problems!!!)

Camping & Leisure are selling the 2008 version (with 500HH waterproofing) for £150 (see Link  http://www.campingandleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_7.html) - This was by far the best deal I could find - I bought it yesterday & it arrived today!!!

Unfortunately I got home from work too late to try it out in the garden but anyone else looking for this tent I don't think you can go wrong (Heres hoping!!!)

Cheers

I think you've got a great bargain there escpecially as it's a brand new tent, will have a warranty. I've noticed that the prices of used tents isn't dropping on Ebay as it used to and bargains are a bit harder to come by.

Perfect tent for your requirements 2/3 people - happy camping. I doubt you'll regret your return to camping. There's still time for a last pitch to try out before the end of the season.

A good solid tent, just get some spare poles all prepared and cut to length etc...... just in case.

Thats just a general comment for any tunnel tent owner (including myself!) as its the one inherent weaknesses in a very versatile and spacious design of tent.

Enjoy the tent when you use her!

Planned for next year, hopefully!

Summer Solstice wild camp.

Chilled in a Field, July.

Crantock, August. Fouth year with the fantastic Quechua Base Seconds 4.2!
..... and the odd night wild camping in my Argos 1 man tent...

That looks like a smasher - well done!

I'd be inclined to get the footprint and carpet. The FP helps to keep the bottom of the groundsheet cleaner, a big issue when packing away a SIG tent. And the carpet as a nod to the Wife's wish to keep things cosy.

Hope you enjoy your return to the fold 17

Great stuff, got ours for £180 a few months ago and thought that was good. Definitely recommend the footprint, really helps with pitching and keeping the tent clean. Also a good job we had one in the summer as on one site mice tunnelled under and ate a hole in it. Easily patched with Gorilla Tape, but if it had been the tent base it wouldn't have been very nice! Spare poles are definitely a must, they really aren't good (IMHO) on this tent.

Forgot to say, you'll find (in very small print tucked in the bag) that the instructions tell you to thoroughly wet the tent before camping. Use a hose or something. I found this helped sort of weather it (silly on this sort of tent I know) but it was more waterproof after we did it. Oh and did I mention the poles........
Seriously though, its a nice tent and we like ours a lot.
