I am looking to do some camping over the winter i see some sites have all weather pitches what are they like to pitch on dont want to take my large tent so i will be using the Vango Icarus 400 and i do not the have carpet or foot print for this tent will just have a few rugs down on floor
We used a hard standing pitch last week but pitched the tent at the side, on the grass, using the hard standing to park the car / trailer and cooking stand.
Hi,
there are various types of hardstandings which accomodate tents.
Pea shingle is one. Some sites have a kind of matting you pitch on and some sites lend you a kind of thick underlay to put down on the hardstanding before pitching your tent.
I would never pitch my tent of one of those rough gravel ones that are used for motorhomes and caravans.

You probably need to invest in a heavy duty groundsheet to protect your tent floor. My brother in law camped on hardstanding recently and liked it, but definately needed the groundsheet. Im guessing it would be a good option in wet weather!
we recently went with friends to the Caravan club site in Moreton on Marsh - beautiful site with wonderful facilities (best showers by far) but no pitching of awnings or tents allowed on the grass surrounding each hardstanding - each HS was very large so we could fit their motorhome our Icarus 500 a table & 4 chairs - we were lucky with the weather, could eat every meal outdoors so only used the Icarus for sleeping in but definately need something underneath, possibly the breathable matting they use in caravan awnings?
