Appologies for ressurecting a thread but I've been away from the forum for a few weeks. My highlights mostly centre around nostalgia during my two camping trips this year for which I backpacked.
My first trip was to Rhuddlan in North Wales, my first camping holiday since one with my parents when I was about 16. I spent a good four days wandering around the local area and visited my paternal grandparents grave. The tent I took had a few scary moments when the wind was bad, and it rained heavily one day but other than that things were fine.
The second trip was to Bangor in North Wales. My paternal grandparents owned a cottage near here until I was about 11 and we spent many holidays there. Sadly it was demolished to make way for a bypass and the site is virtually unrecognisable now, but I spent a happy three days wandering around the area seeing shops and landmarks that were so familiar to me. The weather again wasn't perfect but the tent held up ok.
I've enjoyed being a member of this forum learning some good info and benefiting from everyone's experience. I now own two tents, a 2 berth Gelert Eiger which I used on the two trips and a single berth Pro-Action hike lite tent. I plan to use the latter on a trip around Anglesey, walking the coastal path and spending each night at a campsite (except one night at Beaumaris as I need to recharge things like my MP3 player). I'm in the midst of planning this now and still find it hard to believe that one night at the hotel costs nearly as much as the other 4-5 put together!
