Evening folks

As is was browsing ebay tonight I came across this little sweetie. Of course only this summer i was saying my tent collection was complete and i was not going to buy another tent! 17 but it was a good price at the mo and have always been curious about having a frame tent.

But does anyone have a clue what it is? Seller says its about 18yrs old and was very expensive when bought....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250534680786

help anyone?

Now...if it was a Cabanon it would probably be an Elzas but I'm fairly sure it's not the correct colour scheme.

I'd ask them what make it is - surely they must know this?   If it was a Cabanon I think they would have said.

The sleeping area is probably from the narrow end of the tent towards the door, rather than the more traditional along the longer side of the tent outwards IYSWIM - watch the length of this sleeping area, the Elzas is only 205cm rather than the usual 210cm and I've seen some that are even shorter.

I'd ask them some questions.

I did ask and was told they could not remember - selling due to house move so presumably all pack up. All they could say was its approx 18 yrs old. Having scrutinised the piccie there seems to be an emblem on the front of some sort but frame tents are all new to me so no idea.

If it is cheap enough I am tempted to give it a go but dont want to buy something thats rubbish or i cant sell on if no good for me.

If its that old I don't think the make is going to have any bearing on what the condition might be. It might be worth a tenner. If you ain't going to the pub, I'd stick a bid on in the last 30secs.

If you can get it cheap then it's probably worth going for it. IMO it's the wrong colour for an Elzas of that age and I'd go for it being a Relum or something similar. Still good quality long lasting tents but they tend to go for lower prices so don't pay a Cabanon price for in.

Personally I'd be bothered by them not being able to tell me the make. If they bought it from new and it was expensive which is what they suggest in the ad, I'm surprised that they can't remember the brand.

Plus it's not a big tent so no real hassle to drop it out of the bag to look at the branding on it surely? If it is Cabanon they are likely to get more money for it so why not check? Does this mean it's buried in the back of a shed and they haven't actually checked it prior to sale?

With ebay it's always about how the ad makes you feel about the seller and the tent and personally small things like that tend to worry me.

Ignoring the minor mis-spelling in the address, if I were into ebay and wanted a frame tent, and lived a bit nearer, I'd be tempted (as Art says) to bid £10 or so.

Well I "was" highest bidder till 15 secs before end then someone else (hopefully not someone being tipped off by my post here 17) outbid me by 50p

Hope its somebody who is a new camper and the tent proves a great way of getting a holiday as i have never seen a frame tent that was close enough to avoid postage charges and was right size for me etc so probebly wont again now17

Wish i had bid a bit more now - have to keep saying "got enough tents, got enough tents, got enough tents..."

Yeah, it was cute, but by missing out you may have saved yourself the problem of buying a dud tent and having to store it until you sell it on.

I would have worried about the seller's lack of knowledge.  I have many tents, and I know the name and spec. of each and every one of 'em!  Could be you had a lucky escape! Ten quid may sound cheap, but it's still ten quid!  17

as long as the poles are decent enough nick they are probably worth a tenner.  the canvas can be made into kit bags and the inners sold to recoup the tenner.  a tenner is a bargain!

T'wasn't me! Our shed is full!

For ebay bidding, I bid in the last 20 seconds and I stick in the figure that ultimately I'm prepared to go to - so if my max for that tent was £25 then that's what I'd have put in. The bid only goes up in small increments so you won't necessarily pay that amount. If you're just bidding in 50p of pound intervals someone like me with trump you in the last few seconds because our "big" bid will always outbid you and you won't have time to add another pound.

It may be that ther person who outbid you had put in a "big" bid, so if you'd bid another pound their bid would have automatically increased so don't beat yourself up about 50p.

They'll be others, with a tent of that size I'd keep a look out for one with a sun canopy, with the limited living space they have a sun canopy is a real asset.

(Edited to add...I would NEVER post a link to an ebay auction, all you're doing is attracting attention to the auction....I get cross when others who aren't interested n buying post "oooh look what a lovely tent", it's heartbreaking when it happens to be the only one in your area and it's all you can afford and you know that now everyone has seen it...)

Ditto to the above...I've always used that method for eBay bidding and I've had some really good bargains doing just that. I've just got a bargain on *Buy It Now*. It was for a double burner Coleman dual fuel stove for just 20 quid. It had only been fired up just the once and the seller couldn't get it going again and he stated in the entry that perhaps somebody with more knowledge than himself could fix it and get it going again. I picked it up and  after swift examination of the item couldn't see anything wrong with it. I got it home and fired it up in the correct way and it worked as it should..The seller must have been doing something wrong but I can't think what. I felt very guilty, thinking I'd robbed the poor bloke but the feeling passed after about 2.5 seconds.

It's the same colours and style as a Lichfield I had for a while but smaller.  So my guess would be a Lichfield, forgot the model name, could be Valencia?

Hear, hear!

Something I have been dreadfully guilty of in the past is bidding on/buying Ebay tents which look nice but unwanted, even though the chances of me using them are quite honestly very low. So, more pressure on my home storage space and someone else deprived of a good tent and a holiday at a reasonable price. Silly me.

It's deffo a Relum and one of the last to be made.  It's slightly smaller than my Canaria which (tho' needing repair) has canvas of a quality every bit as good as my Cabanon and a frame arguably of better quality.

Take care
