For that kind of cash you can purchase the finest BRITISH trailer tent, luxurious jobbies with all mod cons unless of course you are planning a Sahara expeditionary project or perhaps taking your Land Rover and trailer along a dried up river bed in the Australian outback. If you are spending a couple of weeks at Fforest Fields, British is your best bet.
I admire your patriotism, but we spent 2 years searching all the British manufacturers before going to johnny foreigner.
It gives me no joy to report that build quality, materials used, innovative design are so superior elsewhere, that for a once in lifetime purchase you go abroad.
It has nothing to do with where you camp but how you camp
My dream trailer would have
Two plate gas burner
Cadac safari chef or similar
Gas bottle (think calor or campinggaz)
water tank 30 -40 ltr (in line pump etc)
three ltr boiler
small sink
leisure battery (or two)
mains in
battery charger (from mains and possibly solar)
inverter
Electric dist board
cabling to get 12v and mains into tent
some work lights
and a cherry on top
I have had a browse around but there dont seem to be any made/sold in the UK (i did stumble across a website of a company that did but forgot to bookmark and have not been able to find it again)
not that I could afford one but definitely on my wishlist
One of the ones I linked is made in this country. Ok the canvas is South African but the rest is made here.
------------- Love a lot. Trust a few. But ALWAYS paddle your own canoe!!
Minds are like parachutes:- They only function when they are open!!!
Those who talk don't know.
Those who know don't talk.
Now your talking Voffer- thats what I had in mind! The one I intend to build (prototype?) Has similar attributes- tho the electrical side will be contained in the 'sideboard' and removed 'enbloc' to the tent once erected. Thanks for your thoughts--
I wish you good luck should you decide to go ahead with this project.... please post progress pictures (trailer porn?)
The MyWay website that Mattlad linked to seemed to imply that they could custom build a trailer for you off a sankey base but at £4000+ pounds they have got to be kidding...
and this is the problem that keeps me out of the market. from what i have seen it may be cheaper to build these kinds of trailers out of gold. There may be a market out there but until it can be built in an affordable (to the average joe) way it will remain, to me anyway, a daydream
My plan is to buy an el cheepo trailer off ebay and bolt onto it the accessories as and when I can afford them. it wont be pretty but it will do what I want it to do
