Lots of weekends away and the occasional weeks camping gives you the oppotunity to visit more places and more sites untill you find one you really like.
My oh works stupid hours and is based 1.5hrs from home so he is adamant that whatever happens we must have 2 weeks in the sun each year as he's so worn out, so this year we are heading to Italy with our tent in August but we will also be spending a week at Whit in Cornwall and using the bank hols for long weekend breaks.
two weeks for me,me and other half work night shifts,so the first week we spend struggling to stay awake in the day,so miss out abit, but the 2nd week we can do all the touristy bits and not knackered as body clock has adjusted back to normal, also do the odd weekends.
i've just put in my annual leave for the whole of the year and put in a two weeker in august..and a few single weeks scattered throughout the rest of the year...lucky for me i work a shift pattern that allows me to have a week off by using only one annual leave...so if i am a bit 'canny' (and i am) and if the boss is a bit lackadaisical (and she is) i can make my annual leave stretch to about 10 weeks.....yay...
although doesn't really make up for the fact that today i have had to walk about 6 miles in the snow and tonight i shall be walking about another 5...oh i wish i had one of those jobs that stop when it snows....
Thanks everyone. I'm tending towards doing separate weeks at the moment - even though its more driving/petrol and less of a disconnect from work - as I could then have a week away in May as well as in June, July and August. Greedy or what?
When I was on my current fave site last year some regulars were saying May was a lovely time of year there, and that comment stuck in my head.
------------- Tackling life the Western District way
My main holiday in summer with the brats is usually 10 days and then there are weekends throughout the year when there are meets, but as I no longer work, if the weather is looking good for a spell i will just take off, lucky me !!
merry. i would go for one week in one place and one week in another. as you say. taking tent up an down dont bother you. you dont really need to travel too far to another camp site. this will make it feel like two seperate holidays. i did this many years ago. and i feel it is the better option. more so that you have a car. bit hard for me as i cant drive now. eye sight not too good. but if near a rail station then thats fine. but now i prefer short weekends. being retired its better for me.
