In some retail cases this isnt so much of a problem and the retailers who take stock in early tend to have good finances, thats not to say this is correct in all cases etc...
Hi Gary, I'm surprised by that, I used to be an area manager for a very large international company and the division I worked in did seasonal products where the main retailing period was spring/summer. My job was to call on franchised outlets like yourself (privately owned - single/multi site) plus some national outlets.
We used to operate a winter stocking service, whereby you negotiate your order for next season anytime between late August and early December and take delivery before Xmas (split deliveries okay). You then by pay a 25% split, late March,Apr,May June.
As the manufacturer, we got our orders in early on the factory and the retailers got extended credit. It meant the retailers could bank a few end of season sales, reclaim the VAT early and there could be dual (wholesale) prices for last season/news season goods. If the retailer gave a decent sized order then a bit of advertising sort could be given (I'm sure you know how what advertising supports really means) and some clothing freebies for staff/good customers.
