Pretty much all of the festivals have family camping areas which have their own facilities and more room - you usually need to buy the right ticket to access it. The family camping area at Download looked like heaven compared to the standard site!
Leeds is one of the only festivals that doesn't have this A lot of the big festivals are also charging double ticket prices for VIP camping which is in smaller, more secure sites and you can park your car next to your pitch.

Generally, the closer you are to the main arena, the more crowded, noisy and badly-behaved the campsites.

I've never had any damage done to my tent at a festival - stick to the quieter parts of the site and make friends with all of your tent neighbours and you'll be fine

This years Download increases from 60000 camping to 110,000 so if I've got my sums right another 18,000 tents will die !

know i have posted this before on UKCS but after the iow festival and the bestival on the island, the scouts have had permission to take what they can from the 'leftovers' this is published on the tickets, so many people dont trash their stuff..
last year we went in ( adults only, the kids are not allowed in to clear, bit of a bio hazard at times!) and helped clear camping gear and tents. these either get sent on to charities, or are used by the scouts, or sold on to raise money for charities.
so please....persuade festival goers to abandon as much as they likea!! (one helper also managed to 'collect' 36 unopened cans of lager for his troubles!)

This is disgusting, why don't people look after things, more money than sense. I think tinallkn4 as a good point give the tents to some groups that will be able to use them.

I think the main problem is that at lots of the festivals they actually trash the tents as well as leaving a disgusting mess behind. If people are so disgusting as to just cra* all over the ground inside a tent without even using a bucket I don't much fancy the chances of there being much worth saving. Yuck & blach & gads
