Last year was our first season of 'real' camping (despite the lousy weather most of the summer!) and our gear has been packed away since we last went away in late October.
Today, being a beautiful day, we decided to pull out the gear and give it it's pre-season check over. I knew that the weather hadn't been 100% when we used it last and the gear is stored in our trailer, in the garage, over winter so I was expecting problems.
I was pleasantly surprised! Just 2 real areas that need dealing with. Our Montana 6 extension was quite damp. Most noticeably on the windows but I'm going to give it a good spray with Miltons tomorrow when I can lay it over the washing line in the sun.
The only other casualty was our beloved Aerobed! Now, this is my fault because, when we unpacked and inflated it, last time we used it, I noticed a tiny (.5cm) patch of mould/mildew on it and had planned to deal with it when we got home.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances late last year, this never got done straight away and I completely forgot about it. Needless to say, when we unpacked it today, almost the entire area of the double bed has mould and stains.
Now, the mould I can kill but the stains? I doubt I can remove them. Maybe I can live with them but they're VERY extensive and tbh a bit creepy!
I think I'd rather invest in a new bed and call it a lesson learned.
We're moving to Portugal in July so we need to get it sorted before then. We're having all the camping gear shipped over, in the trailer, by container (along with other stuff) so we can take advantage of the more favourable Algarve weather for camping! Hopefully, we will have much fewer damp issues then too!
So, does anyone know of anywhere with any decent brand airbeds on offer? Preferably raised, definitely double (actually, ours might even be King Size, I'm not sure)
We all got so excited today, when our tent was up. It makes me really want to go camping NOW (sadly, april is out for me as we have regular show rehearsals for our local operatic society production at the end of the month!)
Guess we'll have to wait til May half term and cross our fingers for nice weather instead!
