Hellooooooo!

Its been a while! After a year out ive now had our much awaited for baby (Huzband had cancer & we were told we could never have children, but naturally we have, shes a miracle  )  ....Scarlett-Rose is 12 weeks old.

Now the huzband says we should camp ASAP....we are considering selling all our stuff and buying BIGGER.  Plus a SIG as ours doesnt have one  But aside from that, whats it like to go camping with a baby? What things might we have to consider that we wouldnt have thought about before. We have EHU & heating etc. But on a practical note what's it like?

Hope you are all well...Ive missed so much!  I will have to catch up!

Marriage is all about give and take. You'd better give it to her or she'll take it anyway.

Big congratulations on your little miracle.

Yes you can camp with baby, as with any type of holiday you will have to take much more stuff!!

First you will need a tent big enough to put crib or travel cot in. My first tent I found that the travel cot height was too tall for bedroom pod but we did have a large travel cot.

If you are not feeding baby yourself try and find out how many amps any electric steriliser uses many sites only allow 10amp of electricity. I had to use bottles and for holidays i was very environmentally unfriendly and took the disposable bottles that you can get in boots and pre mixed formula just to make life easier... with both of mine i also got them used to room temperature formula from an early age so no worries about heating it up.

Try and find a site with baby room as its easier to wash baby, even if you use the sink as a bath ( milton area first)

Make sure you pick a site where you can have your car at pitch as you can never fit everything in tent!!

As for sleeping I used a gro bag and just extra layers of blankets depending on what the weather was like , remember at this time of year temp dips quite a bit at night.

Have fun camping (and shopping for new stuff!!)

I'm sure you don't mean the type of grow bag you get from a garden centre, but I can't think what else you could mean lol :-)

Welcome back, and many congratulations on your wonderful news!

Yes, we camped with a baby donkey's years ago, when there weren't even disposable nappies!  As folks have said already, you just need a heap more stuff!

At 12 weeks, your little one won't be troubled too much by the temperature drop at night, but it is worth being careful, so keep her close to you, I would say in the same pod, so you can keep an eye on her.  And keep space in the car for the buggy, which doubles as a high-chair!

You'll have loads of fun, and so will Scarlett-Rose!  Start 'em young, I say!

Let us know how you get on!

Congratulations and welcome back........I remember you posting some wonderful pics!

My baby is now 23 and we first took him when he was only 6 weeks old and he slept through the night for the first time............I thought I'd killed him

I can remember using a sheepskin 'cosy toes' type of thing for him to sleep in, inside a travel cot which was wonderful as we used it for the buggy as well. Because it was like a sheepskin envelope I had no worries of him kicking it off and becoming cold.  Don't know if they still exist but maybe you could line a modern version with a fleece inner?

As for the tent I would def say polycotton or even cotton as it will naturally regulate the temperature better.

Anyway congrats again and we must have some pics of Scarlett-Rose whether she's camping or not!!

I'm sure you don't mean the type of grow bag you get from a garden centre, but I can't think what else you could mean lol :-)

Grobag

They are a baby/young child sleeping bag - meant for general use, not specifically camping. Basically a bad with arm holes, that zips up to be close around the neck so the can't slide donw, or wriggle out. We used them for both of ours all the time from about 3 months (or whatever they recommend) about to about 2 or so. They can go older, but our would just get up and walk about in around then.

Highly recommended.

We used a thickish Grobag, with various layer on the littleun, typically, body suit, Babygro, fleecy suit. Maybe a blanket, but msolty not necessary.

I disagree that you need to take loads more stuff really. We didn't bother with a travel cot, baby just sleep on the sleeping mat. In our case moslty next to Mum as we co-slept a lot anyway at home. A double mat/bed is useful.

We mostly breastfed, but when youngest was 6 month I did end up having to spend a night or two without mum and so whe was fed expressed milk (in a coolbox) To sterelise the bottles I just used a bucket and milton fluid. (we used a microwave sterleiser at home)

The main extra thing really was nappies - we used cloth a lot - and managed ok with them.

Camping with a baby is pretty easy really (or at least, no harder than nnormal ......) People worry about keepign then warm, but it really isn't that hard you jjst need enough layers.

Feeding is easy, esp if you are breastfeeding (even if they are weaning, they don't need anything much really, just bits of what youa re eating)

Sleeping - well babies will sleep where ever they are when they are tired, forget routine if you do that sort of thing and go with the flow is mauch easier :-)

I'd say enjoy this year. Because next year they will be walking and then they will be beetling off in all directions, moslty the dangerous ones :-) Much harder work until they start to develop a bit of sense :-)

Congrats on the baby, we know how welcome and wanted, but moslty unexpected baby is :-)

And oh, a Khyam makes a great washing line :-)

What about a small inflatable paddling pool to bath baby in.
Congratulations on your little miracle and I hope you have a wonderful time.
