Hi Elaine.

              We got our Tent insurance through the C&CC, also got the Trailer insured with them, fact is they only replace at market value but it does cover other kit not just the tent, so once my kit is a little older I think I will drop the cover, nice to have though, and a little piece of mind for around £50 per year, my advice would be for anyone getting this kind of insurance is to take photos of all your kit, handy to have should the worst happen, a loss adjuster would value a camping chair at say £5, and not the £150 you paid for your Lafuma RSX chair etc, unless you tell them and can proove it.

                    Our household insurance will only cover camping kit, whilst on the premisis, otherwise they want extra money, and the detail they gave was very flaky, so need to review that, tikka72 having decent chairs is good, OK I would not spend £300 on a pair of Lafuma RSX's or whatever there called, but I did by a pair of Lafuma Chamonix Padded chairs, £30 each on clearance from Riversway, bargain when the current price is around £70 each!,  saying why would you take chairs costing that much, is like saying why would you take your Winnebago costing that much, your statement does not make sense to me. 

Before you pay out for insurance check what it actually covers.

What you want is NEW FOR OLD cover as the more common insurance will pay out very little in the event of a claim.

Nationwide Building Society is the best FIXED level of cover that we found which covers all of our kit New for Old in the event of a claim.

You agree a value with them for all of your kit and that is what you insure so if in 6 months time your tent gets damaged, you get the price of a new tent not a percentage of its original value back.

I checked with our house contents insurers. All camping kit is covered at home, and is covered when pitched in a proper campsite. My mum had a friend who came back toa completely empty pitch one day!, which is why I checked. If you just pitch in a random field you wouldnot be covered.
