I can relate to your post frome - we only camped for a weekend last year but due to aging kit, made a list of must haves for this year as we are going for a full fortnight to the New Forest.
So far, HAD to buy a trailer and towbar, double sleeping bag for myself and OH (did have two old singles but trying this), two single Coleman comfort airbeds, a double burner cooker....oops, didnt quite buy the cheap double burner intended but got a Cadac Eazi Chef and a suitcase stove instead, pop-up tent for overnight stops.
Still need to get a single sleeping bag, jockey wheel and spare wheel for trailer, new saucepans (only going to get one larger one now we've bought the CADAC - saved some money!), and various other kitchen bits n bobs.
Want two new comfortable chairs but with that lot above, they'll probably have to wait
So, in answer to OP, NO you dont ever stop buying wither through necessity or desire
