Heated blankets in a tent? that really is glamping... doesn't it melt the airbed?
When I say warmer without my thermals - I mean that I used to have thermals and fleecy PJs on, but found I was actually warmer with just the fleecy PJs... not really brave enough to go commando - with 2 kids knowing my luck I'd have to get up in the middle of the night to take them to the loo (haven't had to yet, but the first night I try it sods law says I would).
I swear by the theory that as long as you don't let yourself get cold before you go to bed you'll be fine, but even in France I've found that if I sit up late (midnight ish) reading in just t-shirt and shorts so that I'm cold when I go to bed it takes ages to warm up - so now even in August I sometimes have a ski-jacket on in the very late evenings...

It doesn't melt the airbed but it heats the air inside turning the airbed into a hot air balloon. We had to get a pair of stepladders to get Val down from the roof of her bell tent at the Greenfields Meet!

We put a duvet under the bottom sheet, this makes a world of difference and a we have been known to have two duvets on top!
Also, although the bed is a double height one, we also put waterproof backed mats down under the bed- helps with dampness. Ours are picnic type blankets, got them cheap for about a fiver each.
I also wear thermal vest and long johns, and have been known to go to bed with my thermal hat on!

WE NEED PICTURES GUYS!
I wondered about taking the elec blanket but thought i was being a bit sad! But i'm gonna do it now after reading this. I did wonder if it was safe to use on the airbed too or whether it would be better to put inside the sleeping bag and warm it up before bed?

That is exactly what we do, One duvet under sheet and 2 on top, but we have just condenced and bought a double sleeping bag, and a single opened up fully for under extra layer, and our throws for on top.

I put one of those picnic type rugs underneath and a fluffy mattress protector on top on the airbed. As long as I'm not cold when I go to bed I'm snug. Mind you I do have a big hairy dog to snuggle up to as well!!!

We're hardy Northern folk who eat boiled ham raw...
We put 2 foam mats under the airbed, a fleece blanket over the airbed, a regular fitted sheet and an 11.5 tog duvet. We sleep in the buff or close to.
Never had a problem really, but we are snuggly sleepers and tend to be hot in the night if anything.
I agree with the not getting cold thing though, we take sleeping bags just to sit in on an evening. Hopping around the tent like caterpillars....
