We were on holiday last august & a lady on her own with her children was camping beside us. She handled everything really well.

HIya - Im giving camping alone (with kids) a go this year too - personally, i cant wait! Hope you enjoy your summer and camping! We`ll have to start a new thread in the autumn and discuss the highs and lows etc, as well as shared experiences throughout the summer - will be nice and fun to support/suggest and share eachothers experiences!

wow, am i really that out numbered on here . I am a single dad have been taking my 3 boys away on my for 3 years now on hotel and camping holidays and must admit it's better than having my ex there. less stress. Even after last years drastic holiday weather and problems with the cheap kit they still want to go again this year and they get as excited(or sad) as me about all the new kit were getting and my little ones got a countdown going on until we go.

Mine are easier now as they are 5,11,14 but the fear always is watching the youngest. That's one main reason they prefer the freedom of campsites as apposed to being comfined to a hotel. We just leave early so that we can have a relaxed drive to the site and have plenty of time to set the tent up without the stress.(and we have been practising in the garden so we know how it goes up). Everyone gets their own bit of the tent to put up so the all feel like their helping.

It's great to balance things out firestorm1 I'm totally with you about the freedom of a campsite. I have a few family members who think I'm crazy and think I should travel lodge my trips but if I did that I would be pretty much on my own, and the kids would have no one to play with.

I've also swapped frantic 'get the tent up as fast as you can' sessions for leisurely camp set ups - much less stressful.

One of the reasons why I like this type of holiday is that it's creating brilliant memories for the kids which will be with them forever.

I camped alone with my LO for the first time last month. I used to camp a lot when I was with my ex before my LO came along and I really enjoyed it so I thought I'd give it a go with my LO.

A few friends and family thought I was mad but It's the best thing that I've done in a while. For the first time I chose a campsite close to home just incase it all went wrong. My LO was so well behaved and I really appreciated spending quality time with him. I am definately planning to do it a lot over this summer so now I've just got to find a decent tent, which is proving more of a task than the camping trip

I was a little aprehensive about being a single female alone and, as someone else mentioned, irrational thoughts did go through my mind but the trip went fine. Admittedly I did go to quite a busy campsite but the area I was pitched in was quite quiet and to be honest I was more worried about trouble from the drunked teens stumbling around than anything else (so perhaps a remote site would actually be better for me). I haven't been to any of the more remote sites yet but I would consider them & I really want to go the River Dart at some point too.

Hi all am new to this site and finding it very interesting. I too am now a single mum camper and i can honestly say i love it. The main stress for me was pitching the tent, mine is rather large (Kalahari 10) but me & my eldest who is 10 seem to be getting the hang of it now!!! We tend to go to sites where you can have fires on an evening and aren't the ususal commercial sites and have just returned from a lovely place in Burton Flemming where the kids could could just do as they liked. Mine are 10, 4 & 2. I was worried that i would be constantly having to keep an eye on the 2 year old but she was fantastic and really took to camping. It's nice to know there are others like me out there and are just embracing the camping life without sitting at home worrying and doing nothing.

Leanne x

Hi Fiona

I would not worry about camping alone as fellow campers are very friendly you will soon be making friends. It sprobably safer then staying in a city for sure. I am ofetn camping on my own with my dog and never worry. I too am a member of C&CC but have never been to a rally as yet. Maybe because I feel its a bit too organised and not into large number of people. Did notice that there is a message forum on this site called meeting up and getting together and have had a look at the postings in there. I am more tempeted by these postings to get involved then the C&CC rallies.
