As predicted we had a variety of weathers, gales, showers, downpours and sun!! Thanks to someone on here recommending the Highlander Echo 400 sleeping bag, clothes were not required at night  and the kids were lovely and warm with sleeping bag, duvet, layers and fleece blankets, didn't even need the hot water bottles!  I took their bikes so they spent many hours riding round exploring the site which kept them toasty too! In fact they tell me they were really warm the whole w/e and absolutely loved the site and want to go back there again! The site allowed campfires so we had one every night. The bell tent was just brilliant and took all the weather with no problems and was easy to put up and take down   We were really lucky that the majority of the time it was dry during the day and we had a very successful trip. I have to say I haven't been that relaxed in a long time and I love my sleeping bag and I love my tent !!  Now to go and write a review on the site and the tent!  Thank you to everyone on here for the brilliant advice

Sounds great, glad you all had a great time and relax..... Now the only problem is going back to work.

Will read your review on the bell tent.

Which site were you at, muggle? We're looking for a good one in Snowdonia which allows campfires.

Llyn Gwynant, did my review of it last  night http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3010 Depends what sort of site your after, this one was very laidback and acoustic instruments allowed until midnight but I can't think of anything better than sitting round a fire and hearing someone strumming their guitar and singing.

I have never stayed there, but I can imagine there would be lots of midges there in the height of summer.

Loved your review, Muggle. Site sounds fantastic!  Absolutely our kind of camping!  Have added it to my virtual brochure.

Thanks for the recommendation.

brianconwy - yes they do get a lot of midges but with so many camp fires going in the evening they weren't a problem for us and we were right by the water.  I expect it will be worse in the summer but it wouldn't put me off, just an excuse to build a fire every night but it is something you would need to consider when choosing whether to go or not.

I love that site.Haven't been for a few years now but used to go a lot when I was younger. In all my years of camping I've yet to find a better setting for a campsite.

........................................................................................................................

I was camping in the forestry site in Glencoe once and It took me a couple of days to realise that the fires were helping to keep the midges away.  I do like Llyn Gwynant and we used to have a large framed photo of it up the wall once.
