Home on Tuesday from first trip of the year...we arrived at the site in Ringwood forest...pegged out the dogs and started to set the tent up...undid the pole bag and all the poles fell out un-attached to one another!!! discovered that whilst in the cupboard the laccy had snapped...so with lots of muttering and mumbling under breathe we attempted to thread the remains through.....gave up and decided to find a camping shop....found one eventually and returned to make repairs...sucess...tent up...unpacking began...oops forgot camping stand!! then realised we had no towells...managed to have a relaxing weekend at a lovely site...to finsih our weekend away our gas ran out just before dinner was done!! As we are cash poor and were going home the next day we planned to ask our neighbour for some water..as it was the owner kindly made a huge pot of tea.....maybe we have reached the age of having a tick list!!

Life is to short to miss out on getting your tent out

hobbit.. that is normal camping. anyways. i hope you had a great time. no doubt it will rain on the day i go. and be pouring down when i get therte. but as i have a pop up. it is not so much a problem. out of bag and climb in until the rains stops. maybe it is worth having a good check of your camping gear next time before you go. only takes a few mins. a tick list is a great idea. but something always forgotten though. i have put down a few things i know i wont need. that is until the time comes. wow. glad i brought that. or maybe a neighbour could use it for a min. never know. ermmm.. did you get me a stick of rock while you were away.?

The elastic is only there to keep the poles together when packed, it has no structural value when the tent is erected.

Your right Bernie but have you tried to pitch a tent with the shock cord missing ? Happened to us once, bigger tent admittedly, but the pole was a pain as it kept coming apart as we raised the flysheet. In the end we lightly taped the joins to get us through and then dropped that pole the following morning having got a new shock cord.

Lesson here is ..... Always carry a repair kit.
